Cranky - what a sad story about your mum, what a dreadful way to end her life, sadly it's all too common in violent relationships. I used to work in a women's refuge, and the stories never ever ceased to amaze me. It is awful when you want to help but you can't. Makes me all the happier when I hear about people like Emma's friend, who has had the strength and courage to leave.

I never used to mention it when I was younger (I was 21 when she died), but now I tell people if domestic violence is mentioned. If it only saves one person then it will have been worth the telling IYKWIM.

  • Afternoon all!! Havent posted for a couple of days as been so busy. Yesterday DH put up the plantation shutters that i won in a competition from a link on the comps board. Got a set for the patio doors in the living room and another set for the massive patio doors in the kitchen. Am so pleased because they look so gorgeous and theres no way i would have been able to afford to pay the £1000 they cost. Cant stop playing with them!!
Today i have been quite busy. All uniforms washed and dried ready to iron tomorrow. Gave the spare room a second coat of paint (but i fear it will need 3 or 4 coats as it is satin) and hopefully DH will finally manage to get the new skirting boards fixed today. Getting there but s-l-o-w-l-y. Have hoovered downstairs. Also done the weekly shop in iceland and Morrisons. (In case anyone is interested Morrisons are doing 3kg bags of Bakers gravy coated dog food down from £6.22 to £3.11). Dishwasher has been on and have just unloaded that too. Finally went to the library and changed my address (been here nearly a year now!) and couldnt resist getting some books out so looking forward to a good read in the evenings. i can easily get through a couple of books a week.
Tea tonight will be something quick and easy but not sure what yet! DH made a chicken broth/soup concoction yesterday and it was absolutely gorgeous and will defineately be on the menu again.
Well thats all for me - off to the comps board to catch up on them and then a lazy afternoon reading me thinks!
    Hugs to those in need!!

Many thanks everyone for your best wishes towards my mum. I really does mean alot to both her and me. Huge (((hugs))) to you all! You're all special. x

I suggested to my mum that I popped up this weekend to take her out. She's far too busy for THAT with going out with all her friends and leading her normal life! However, she does have a small window in her diary a week tomorrow. Her and my dad are going up to the Lakes on Monday until Friday, meanwhile they've managed to get my grandma into respite care for 2 weeks. Grandma doesn't quite understand how if my mum is "supposed" to be ill then she doesn't actually look it! Sadly, I think that'll change when my mum begins chemo.

DH and I popped down to the Farmers' Market this morning. It was VERY quiet. It's normally really bustling, but I didn't have to wait at all. I'm not sure whether it's the weather or the "current economic climate". Even the ostrich burger stall wasn't there. However, my favourite farm meat stall WAS there and doing a BOGOF deal on all its minced beef. I made the most of their offer!

We then popped to get DH a much needed new coat. He hasn't had one for YEARS and his previous one was looking incredibly erm, "tired". Whilst we were in the shop, I found a great coat for me (which was budgetted for, I just wasn't expecting to find one today!!!). Let's just say that DH and I have boosted the economy a little today........

We'll have the olive ciabatta from the FM with spag bol made using some of the cheap mince tonight! Perfect! Probably washed down with the really yummy chocolate brownie that we just HAD to have.

Take care all. You're all fab. x

big hugs vickya, cranky40, smoky and crazychiks friend.

on the subject of dv we're having problems with dd(19)'s ex at the moment. He won't accept that the realtionship is overand harasses her all the time. I'm pleased to say that she has at last found the courage to report him to the police who were marvelous. She will get a visit from the specialists next week but at least the ball is rolling. For anyone in a similar position please get out - you're only regret will be not having done it sooner!

Afternoon everyone, I haven't been on here for about a week so I've got a lot of catching up to do. Been busy trying to find work & OH has had me doing all those little jobs I never had time to do. On the job front I've got through to the final selection for one job, selection day next Friday so time will tell. It isn't something I want to do for ever, but its an 'in' to a multi-national company who say they are willing to train & promote once you have proved yourself. A guy round the corner from me works there & he has been there just over a year & is being trained to be a trainer, so they seem to do as they say. Still haven't received any redundancy or payment in lieu of notice from my old employer so they may be getting a visit next week.

Freezing cold here this morning, did a tip run this morning before breakfast, loped a tree yesterday so had to get rid of all the rubbish. Hoping it warms up tomorrow as I've sorted my bike out & plan on going for a test ride tomorrow, before breakfast. If all goes well I intend to cycle to the local shops & job centre in the coming weeks. Should be good for me & my wallet.

Right I'm off to catch up on weeks worth of OS reading. Have a good one.

Afternoon all! Crazychick - that was a brilliant thing you did for your friend - well done for helping and I hope it all works out for her - she's lucky to have such a good friend anyway. Cranky - such a sad story about your Mum - it's good though that you have the strength to use a tragedy like that to help others. VickyA - glad to hear your Mum is keeping bright and cheerful - and living life well by the sounds of it. Nesssie - I can just imagine your howling gales! Are you in Stornoway itself or more exposed? Either way when it blows up your way it really BLOWS doesn't it - when we were on N.Uist last year we had gales for a few days - I stepped outside the door of the cottage one night and got blown clean off the step - THAT, ladies and gents, is a high wind!

Had to have the car at the garage for 9am this morning - left it with them and we popped over to the cafe for bacon & egg sarnies! Got the car back and it was very nice to not see the mirror held on with tape! When we first got in the car this morning it was -5! Hasn't got above zero here all day - actually, not above -1, when I come to think about it! Headed over to the market and hadn't been there long when MrEH got the text telling him the rugby was off so that saved us rushing. Managed to get a new shower curtain for £6 - a really nice one is a deep blue with a diamond pattern in the weave. Much more practical than the last one (cream!) that showed every black mouldy spot! Also got a 1kw oil filled rad for £12 - that will help with our freezing cold bathroom and I feel much happier having that type of heater in a bathroom than one of the convector types. MrEH got LOTS of socks (18 pairs for £10) and also some undies so he's a happy camper. Came home and had cheese and chutney toasties for lunch. This afternoon MrEH has been drilling more shelf holes, we have also got the new freezer switched on to check it, realised that we have "worktop" space on top of it and pulled out the coffee machine - unused for several years due to having to be kept stored away in a cupboard - cleaned that out and got it back into use. Hurrah! My sandwich toaster will also live on top of it which means it will get used more. I've also made muffins and S&S'd the kitchen and bathroom. Now about to make the pie (blackberry and apple) and pasties (Cheese, potato and onion I think) I promised myself I'd do while MrEH returns to drilling holes....I hope.

    Have a lovely evening everyone!

Crazychic - top marks for what you did, a true friend indeed

Cranky - your poor mum, what a sad sad story

-5 here in Kent this morning and not much higher throughout the day. At least it looks like its warming up from tomorrow :j

Went shopping this morning for some bits and bobs, it seemed very quiet at my shopping centre, Sainsburys especially. Came home to some HM potato and leek soup that i got out of the freezer last night. Ironing done. Was tempted to make some cakes but am trying to lose some lbs so didn't in the end. Saying that have been good all week but usually have a fry up on a Saturday and we had gammon, chips egg and beans and freshly made bread for tea, it was yum. Now that I have filled my face perhaps I won't be so hungry during the rest of the evening and start picking.

    Have a good evening everyone

Have had a fairly busy day but not very Money saving!!
Back to swimming lessons for ds2 & had to pay for next 10 lessons.
Then on for a coffee with my friend and her girls, lovely to catch up with her.
Home , got a couple of loads in WM , still got a couple more to go. The WM leaks if there is too much or too little in and only I seem to know the exact amount!
Had to go into town and had lunch when we were out but as it was a late lunch we don't really need dinner tonight!
    Enjoy your weekend

  • Good evening everyone. It's been very cold here today also. Even furbaby Bree has only wanted to go for her walk long enough to do her "business," then come back home.

We walked up to Home Bargains this afternoon and I found some goodies I've been needing. Two excellent fry pans, 20 and 24cm for £2.99 each. They are heavy duty and not like the ones you usually get at that price. You know that type, you bump them with a feather they get a huge dent. Or the first time on the hob they warp out of round. :rotfl:

Also got some of the Sensations Poppadums in Lime and Coriander for 29p for the 90gm bag. No, they're not a need, but DH does work very hard in the cold to take care of us so he deserves some treats. Besides, much cheaper than buying crisps. I just have to portion them out in bags so he doesn't munch the whole bag in one sitting. A few more things we really did need went in the basket. We weren't in there that long and when we came out it felt so much colder. It was a very chilly walk home despite being well wrapped up.

Brekkie today was square sausage sandwiches made with the sausage I made last week and the HM bread that actually was bread this try. ;) I made veg and beef soup in the SC. Just a bit of mince browned, frozen mixed veg, 2 tins of plum tomatoes and herbs/seasonings. It turned out very nicely and warmed us well tonight. I've enough left to put 2 portions in containers for DH's lunches this coming week and 2 in the freezer.

After I get off here I'm heading to the kitchen and make up my bread dough to bake tomorrow. Then I think I'm going to pop a pan of brownies and a plain yellow cake in to bake. I'm going to put caramel frosting on it. mmmmmm That will more or less sort our afters out for the week. I may freeze part of them tho or I know I'll just have a taste here and there til they're gone by Tuesday. :o

Have tidied the flat and just have a few dishes to wash up from brekkie/lunch and dinner. Hopefully we'll have a quiet evening playing some board games, talking and the like. Some days I would like to toss the telly on the tip. :D

I hope all have a peaceful and restful evening. Many, many gentle (((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))) to all in pain, grief, sadness, loneliness, who are poorly, who are content, who are happy, who just want a hug. May you each be blessed as much as I am blessed by you every day. Thank you all.

    Peyton xx

    Evening all,

Went up to the local shops and got a few bits we needed, bird seed and bin liners, oh and picked up a YS pizza in somerfield, for 43p, :T , which is in the freezer.

Then went walking up the woods, and took some photos of the frost, I have put them on my facebook if anyone wants to have a look.

Its has been really cold here all day and barely got above freezing, heating is on, and we are all cosy.

Have good evenings and stay warm xx
