I also know it depends on the time of year you go, but even on trip advisor, they will tell you, the rates for hotels in Nw at the monet are the best they've been in a decade, so make sure you look around properly before you hit that 'book' button!
I've got a cracking deal on the Radisson Martinique, Manhattan over Easter. I've paid £300 for 4 nights. There was an offer on Expedia at the time I booked it. It's now coming up at 3 times that price! Looks ok.Matched betting proceeds so far: £505.000 -

exactly.. and NYC has already put their clocks forward an hour, which happened on the 7th March, hence only a 4 hour time difference, rather than the standard 5 hour time difference..

with regards to booking hotels via things like priceline and hotwire etc (quikbook excluded) is that you could end up with hotels in areas you ain't keen on..
i tried finding something in the area of NYC i wanted to stay in and came up with nothing that would suit...
it'll probably work for hotels in midtown etc, but anything lower manhattan, there isn't much choice.
quikbook is always worth a look, but you've sometimes got to leave it til the last minute to get a good price, which doesn't suit everyone

I agree with Marky - there were one or two place on Hotwire that were about the same price as I paid but in the end it swung for me on location (I wanted to be uptown by the park) and the fact that I knew exactly what I was getting for my money from Expedia - I'm not against the topsecret hotels idea though - but i really think it only works if the hotels are very good quality - some of them on hotwire are business hotels - no good for a partying holiday0

I agree too, but New York is so easy to get around, as long as the area is safe. I think the major disadvantage is that you can't cancel.
I'm really torn, there is an offer on hotwire at the moment, from what I can gather on betterbidding its the Wyndham Garden Hotel Midtown for $99 per night, that works out at £588 for the week. For me, my partner and our little one, I think thats brilliant, but Im unsure about the set up with regards a baby there. Also, the street its on has been mentioned negatively quite a few times on trip advisor, despite the hotel getting rave reviews otherwise. I don't know whether to book or not, I can't see me getting anywhere cheaper for that kind of quality hotel.0 -

sometimes people need to be sure of where they are going and what there getting . Internet is still a very new concept and like me often find out all info on line places -names-single items and ideas then approach others eg Shops /travel agents/ companies to do the leg work but you have the knowledge on what to do or what to pay. My trip to ny was from lastminute but that was after finding out what was available in TA for the money we wanted to pay . TA quoted 5k for a ok hotel in a ok area. I used this budget to keep pushing up my standards and stars to a better and better hotel and great return seats on plane with transfer from jfk inc for 4.7k not inc any cashback still alot of money for less than a week but 2 huge rooms near top floor in a stunning hotel on times square no regrets .:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
very good advice and well put
Haha, looking back through my message, it's not exactly 'well put', I really should use spellcheck.
Deary me.
I posted on here a while ago for help, I got a little bit of advice, but it's true, if you want to find the perfect place for you for the perfect price, then you have to put in the effort and research your bottom off.
I have done nothing BUT that for the past week, and have found some awesome deals, recieved some excellent advice...all of this I shall put to good use and make sure this holiday is the one to remember, well, I'm getting married while we're there AND seeing The Daily show (vip tickets) so I'm guessing we won't forget it in a hurry.
For anyone reading this for the first time, the best pieces of advice I would give:
1:Check KAYAK for best flight deals, they give you the best rates for the whole month.
2:Sign up to Travelzoo usa, check it everyday, you will get a good idea of whats on offer, the deals change quite regularly too.
3:Read hotel reviews on trip advisor, I have done for every trip Ive ever made, and they're always spot on.
4:Cheapest hotel websites: Quikbook, Hotwire, Expedia, Travelzoo, usa, http://www.via-her.com/, bookinhotels.
and this is before we even get there))))))))0

I stayed at the Wellington in January and really liked it. Apart from the lifts which were so so slow. It is times square and to be honest I wouldn't stay in that area, far too overprived! Go further out to get breakfast etc and you will find it a lot cheaper.
Hotel room was small but expected that. It was cleaned everyday with fresh sheets and the views were fantastic. Hotel staff were really friendly and helpful. Cannot fault it really. I know its had mixed reviews on tripadvisor so was a but dubious but in all honesty it was fine. You are so knackered by the time you do decide to go to bed that you don't really care where it is!0 -
Thanks for the advice. We'll venture out a bit for the meals to save some money. Don't mind it being quite small as just the 2 of us and we'll be out most of the day and night.0
