I'm taking my two teenage girls to New York in August and got this email from the Hotel Beacon...has anyone been there? and do you think this price is ok..ta

For the month of August, we have availability in a few different room categories.

1.A studio room with two double beds, kitchenette and marble bath at the special of $205.00 per night, plus tax ($239.71 inclusive – US dollars).

2.A one bedroom suite with either two double beds, a king bed or queen bed in the bedroom, a separate living room with a foldout queen sleep sofa, full kitchen and marble bath. The rate for the suite with either two double beds or king bed in the bedroom is $255.00 per night, plus tax ($298.84 inclusive – US dollars) and the queen bedded suite is $235.00 per night, plus tax ($275.99 inclusive – US dollars).

If they can be persuaded to share a bed (and my teenage boys did!) then you could get cheaper at the Hotel Cosmopolitan, but they are not 'suites' so you don't get the kitchen facilities. Are the kitchen facilities that important? We didn't mind going out for breakfast, although I did miss having cups of tea in the room!

August will be HOT. Very hot. Air conditioning essential, IMO.

Waxies I'm seriously looking at the Beacon for the first weekend in December as everywhere is so expensive then. Let me know what its like if you do go for it.

Becky - I looked at Hotel Bellclair as you suggested, but they quoted me $425/night for December - so before I bite the Beacon's arm off, any other places for under $300/night for 3 nights 1st weekend in December - needs to be 2 beds in the room with private bathroom (and heating that time of year) ideally walking distance from Central Park.

I know this'll probably sound a wee bit wacky, but have you tried the Youth Hostel in the middle of NYC who charge $60 per night? It certainly looked okay from the outside??

Cosmo is $288 per night for the first week december, and then it's $2 for a 12 minute subway ride to central park! ;)

and that is shockingly expensive, when normally you can get the cosmo for about $150 a night!!!!

Jeeeezzz :eek::eek: Ours was not that expensive by a loooong way! We paid £280 each for 7 nights (one night free) through expedia :D:D

(it was cheaper than the cosmo so thats why we went for it before Marky shouts! :p)
