The scenery would be better if you just kept riding the Staten Island Ferry all night, wouldn't it? Cake and candles at midnight.
Wander round Battery Park in the dawn.
Sue thats a great plan - might work into the evening a trip on the ferry at sunrise with cake and drinkies:D:D:D
Thanks!0 -
I used to remember years ago going on the Staten Island ferry. But have always just walked on past them.. Might use them this year for some great photo's (and not wanting to pay for the Ellis island and Liberty Island tickets again...:) )Debt free from January 2019 - Paid off £31,161.70 in 7 years.10 year anniversary0

Hi all
Just wanted to fill you in on my trip- I got back on Tuesday. It was my second visit to New York.
Last time I went it was $2 to a £1 so I really noticed a difference in prices this time around :-(
We stayed at New York Loft Hostel in Brooklyn which I would recommend if you are on a budget. Cost roughly £10 each a night and this included breakfast and free internet. It was about 6 stops into Manhattan.
We bought the saver $25 metro card and that gave us unlimited rides for our stay.
We went to Top of the Rock and staten island/ellis island- both of which I would recommended. The museum at ellis island is really interesting and free once you have paid your ferry crossing.
Anyway, just wanted to share those little tips- hope they come in use to someone.0 -
my thought on the staten ferry is not getting closer to liberty but turning around and getting a good view of downtown. Ellis island is good once for historic reasons. But i notice things that i am not looking for sometimes become obvious afterwards EG. slightly off topic ----in paris i knew how big the Eiffel Tower would be and how it looks from a distance and from right below Been to blackpool enough.- but never really knew how small everything else around as a comparison. Makes Eiffel look and seem massive. In contrast ESB as big as i could imagine i tried to picture how much one object could be built out of a few bags of cement and a trowel. But when below/on top or top of the rock the ESB has things hanging off its shoulders like Met-life &chrysler and others pulling its sleeve and everything else above its waist it makes the ESB less of a formidable beacon on the eye. I wish i saw the twin towers and already talking petronas and Dubai huge beast but thats for the future. What a waffle back to the match:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

hello all!
Just wanted to thank you for your amazing help prior to my trip. I arrived back on saturday and can safely say without exageration that I had the best week of my life so far. A truly unforgettable experience and I'm now pretty set on moving to New York within five years
I made this video and just thought i'd share it with you guys since it was your efforts that helped make my trip such a life altering success

My highlight was seeing the knicks play the san antonio spurs and I would highly advise anyone to watch the knicks for just $30 !! I'm now a very much onverted basketball fan.
Also visited the UN and found it really interesting and a sinch at only $8 for a tour.
My other highlight was probablly union square which is really good for a student vibe - though watch out for the crazies in the starbucks!Merry Christmas MSE!0 -

I first went in 2001 in Feb, me and my sis stood on top of the south tower, it was incredible being up that high, our ears popped in the lift. Though obviously, 7 months later, those scenes were even more powerful to us as we remembered how high it was and just thought of those people trying to get down, just awful. I am glad I went before and after though.A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0 -
