I stayed at the hotel le jolie - http://www.hotellejolie.com - I'm looking to go back to NYC before you're even going to land there, and I ain't booking anything right now, as it's just too damn expensive... but anyway..

I grabbed a great rate exactly 3 months before I was going to NYC on travelocity.com where I got the hotel for $119 a night for the 3 nights. Whether I'll get that rate again, i'm not so sure, but for the style of hotel it is, that was DAMN cheap, you can get $146 now on the hotel website, but as an advance rate, so you need to prepay in full, or $163 as a pay on check out, and it is cancellable, so if you decide, you can book, reserve, and cancel if you find something cheaper..

travelocity.com or expedia currently have "no rooms available" for your (or my) dates, so the hotel hasn't passed any rooms over to any other website yet to sell. Probably because it isn't close enough to the time, so they ain't discounting right now. I've checked on expedia, and they have no rooms at all after the 31st December. They will appear, but it's just the hotel haven't passed any onto the resellers as such just yet..

I'm still hoping to go over for the first or second week of Jan with the OH - I have accoms with friends but I'd like to spend one or two nights in a hotel - can anyone suggest somewhere they've stayed in Greenwich or SoHo??

I'm thinking of something boutique and sexy - most likely expensive...I'd like to treat the OH you see :D

I'm quite tempted by the SoHo Grand...hmmmm

Have you thought about the Smyth Tribeca... that's posh... only about 3/4 mile walk from SoHo... (or subway right outside!)

You've also got the Mercer Hotel, which again is rather nice..

oh, and I've not stayed in any of them, I just know of them!

Thanks Mark, thats useful. We only booked the flights so early as we were redeeming some air miles with Virgin and their reward seats seem to get booked up several months in advance. We wanted to secure dates and get decent flight times. Not planning on booking hotels just yet, just wanted a recommendation, thanks for the tip!

aaah yes... the trips will miles do have to be booked earlier than a normal flight...

in case you're not keen on williamsburg as an area of brooklyn to be in, you can also look at the hotel le bleu, which is a sister hotel of the jolie, which is a bit further south, in Park Slope..

  • Hi
I have been on the new york pass site and want to purchase our passes, but noticed that a lot of the attractions say "closed christmas". We are travelling between the 29th Dec and 3rd Jan. Do you think they just mean xmas day? I have emailed them 3 times, but i think there is something wrong with their website page where you can submit questions. Sorry if this is a daft question, have never been to NY before so realy don't know what to expect this time of year.
    Thanks
If dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to go where they go. :A

My first question is are you sure you're going to get your moneys worth from a pass?? Some of the attractions are a pay what you like, whereas the pass lists a full price! I've never really understood the thrill of rushing around to go see attractions just to get your moneys worth and missing some of the buzz of the city.

We went in March, and we weren't going to go back until next September, and then it was between Christmas and April and now I am hankering to go before Christmas and see it all done up. ha ha ha.

Fingers crossed there is a flight sale for PE soon x
