if you go via moneysupermarket you can get a card for free, regardless how much you top it up by.

so it might be worth getting the card now, with just the minimum on, so at least you have it

I just think there's more things to be doing then doing that twice...it's New York, there's ALWAYS more things to be doing! I enjoyed my ferry trip, but it certainly isn't something I would say to people you must do, and do it night and day! Perhaps do a night cruise around Manhattan, that for me would be 100 times better?! =)
Yeah, but, the SI ferry is FREE! :rotfl::money:

Anyway, I'll just leave it by saying that on a hot humid August night, it was a lovely thing to do.

The 3 month rule is my made up rule, on the basis of that each of my holidays to NYC, the flight has been booked in this 3 month before window. Yes, the prices i've got have always been very competitive.

Markymoo, I've currently just come into the 3 month period for my holiday. I'm looking for an open jaw ticket from Manchester to Washington, returning from New York to Manchester.

I realise that this it not just a return flight to New York, but my outbound flight has a stopover in New York and I've noticed that out of the 3 airlines that fly direct to New York from Manchester, Continental charge the same price for my open jaw ticket as they do for a straight return ticket to New York.

I'm looking to travel on Saturday the 19th September for 15 nights and return on Sunday 4th October. I've been keeping an eye on the prices for Continental flights on Kayak, Opodo & Continentals own website. Prior to entering the last 3 months ticket prices were first at £350, then £379. however now when I want to book the price has sky rocketed to £778 on the Continental website & £787 on Kayak for the flight I was looking at.

In your experience have you seen anything like this before? and do you think the price is likely to drop? I know it's probably a bit stupid limiting my options to one particular flight, but thinks would be so much easier for me for airport transfers and things if I could get this one particular flight.

sideswipe... ooooh.. it's a MADE UP RULE on past experiences.

though, I've noticed that CO have recently upped their prices, and DL too, there are only 2 airlines that fly direct to NYC from MAN, anything else you see are just codeshares.

If neither are discounting tickets, then there won't be anything..

KLM/NW via AMS (fly to JFK or EWR) seems a good bet right now, for a good price ticket, but other than that, i'm confused as to why the prices are so sky high.

Other options right now, there seem to be some bargain fares on aa.com, and your itin comes in at £391.40

MAN - ORD - DCA on the outgoing
JFK - BRU - MAN on the return..

not ideal, but it's still an option at a good price..

I'm in the same situation, had a return flight with DL, about a week ago, at £342, which i hesitated in booking, as I wanted to transfer money around my bank accounts.

Today, when wanting to book, it's shot up to £440 for a direct, £372 for a direct outgoing and a change on the way back, but then the website screws up etc etc... blah..

So at the moment, I've got 3 nights of a hotel booked, and no flight yet... mmmmmmm... i hate holidays sometime..

I'm not into my 3 months yet but fares are still really expensive compared to April - you'd expect October to be cheapish since the weather will be rubbish - the only cheap fares I can find are from Bristol - which isnt too much of a problem for me as I have hotel of mum and dad there but its annoying to say the least...

Oh by the way the are some indirect flights from LCA if anyone fancies it - presume its changing at Amsterdam - but since thats 45 mins away wont be too much hassle - I might do that if they are still around next month :D
