I've done TOTR twice, but Empire State once.
I'm going to do TOTR again in September, but go up at twilight and get some sunset / night shots.. Not too fussed about doing ES again though
Staten Island Ferry is nice, done that three times now, but wouldn't do it again, unless I was in the vicinity, and had an hour to kill...

I been up TOTR twice as well
One daytime and one night - it is totally different and amazing at night
Never been up ES - but went to that roof bar and saw it from close up and it was great0 -
I don't think it's that bad.. Leave the hotel by 9am, 10am ferry 11am head towards the brooklyn bridge (hop on a subway from the ferry uptown!) , 12noon into brooklyn, wander around, hop on subway, 3pm into williamsburg, and a pub crawl begins.. if you time it right, it can be done, and when you're sitting in a pub boozing, you'll be fine!

Word of warning, not all the bars will be open in Williamsburg at 3pm so check out the opening times wherever you can. I found this website particularly useful: http://www.freewilliamsburg.com/bars/index.html"Who throws a shoe, honestly?"

Oh, the first time you do ES, you do think it's amazing, until you go TOTR.... then that just blows you away.

How do people take their dosh to new york?....spose carrying round wads of dollars aint such a good idea is it?0
-
I just took enough for the day (or what i thought would be enough) to be honest, i know you hear some stories about NY but i felt very safe over there.0

previous times i've gone to NYC, i've just carreid wads of dollars...
not carried, left most in hotel room, never had anything stolen.
This time, i'm being a bit more sensible, and splittings things over a smaller wad of dollars, and some on a fairfx card, and some then in my Nationwide Flex account

Dont get travellers cheques though - most of the bureaus wont change them now - my friend took them (in US $) and couldnt change hers and had to take them back to UK and get them changed here...0

I took TC's once or twice, but found it harder and harder to change them, or spend them..
One restaurant I ate at, was happy to take them, and did actually take more from me, and give me cash as change, which was nice, but a prepaid credit card like fairfx is much more useful these days.
