Have you plans to eat at all?? ;-)
For me, it's a mega important thing that I eat well, you're in New York, it would be a sin not to! I would get on over to Trip Advisor and look at the restaurant recommendations there...There's a great big list for you:

Ah it sounds daft but with it being the first trip we've done to NY we're wanting to do the Empire State once just to say we've done it. I guess the different views you get compared to the rock will good to see anyway.
Yeah we're planning on eating, and eating well! We're not big proper sit-down restaurant type eaters.. it'll mainly be steakhouses / pizza places / diners etc we'll visit mostly so these shouldn't take too long really.0 -

keep trying.. flights from MAN when i want to go at the moment are £440, but from London £336... maddening that MAN doesn't seem to be getting and decent flight prices...

Thanks a lot for the brilliant (and quick!) responses everyone, been a great help!
I've combined the two suggestions from both of you and came up with the following (I missed off empire state at night and times square at night off the original list):
Day 2
Rockerfeller Center
Times Square
Grand Centrale Station
Madison Square Garden Tour
Little Italy & China Town
Soho
Greenwich Village
Day 3
Ground Zero
Wall Street
Staten Island Ferry
Brooklyn Bridge
Brooklyn Promenade
Williamsburgh bar crawl
Day 4
Yankee Stadium
Central Park
Bleeker Street area
Day 5
Do our own thing
Citifield
Any better? We're staying in the cosmopolitan hotel.
Thanks again all.
Ps mark - the mets are NY's number 1.. last nights 15-0 defeat by the yankees was just a fluke
Aaah.. Cosmo Hotel is a great place to stay... *grins*
Times Square is boring, trust me, it'll take you 12 mins to get up from the Cosmo and 12 minutes to take photos, so you can do that any evening when you have some spare time. maybe sneak it in on the way back down from *spit* Citi Field *spit*. I'll reiterate the don't bother with ES Building either, as it is cramped and takes ages to get up and down. You get herded around and up and down, and that's it, but with TOTR you can wander for as long as you want as it's much more spacious.
btw.. it is Grand Central Station, i subtly corrected it, but this time i'm pointing out the mistake..
Also, days without plans are sometimes the best days you can have..

Haha I don't know where I got that spelling from! For some reason I thought they put an 'e' on the end..
Yeah I think we'll just tag times square in somewhere else.
Cheers for your help.0 -
Do the SI ferry at night as well as during the day. It runs all night, so wait until it's good'n'dark. And stay at the back, fewer people in the way!Signature removed for peace of mind0

We were only there for 3 days, but going on the ferry late one night was one of the highlights! Just there and back ... then walking through Battery Park back to the Cosmo. Fantastic fireworks one night too, over on SI.
We were there in August, and it was HOT and HUMID, but lovely on the ferry.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I love the ferry too - I did it twice the first time - battery park at night is amazing and you can take a bottle of wine down and a picnic for before you go on the ferry and watch the sun go down - *sigh* very cool0

I just think there's more things to be doing then doing that twice...it's New York, there's ALWAYS more things to be doing! I enjoyed my ferry trip, but it certainly isn't something I would say to people you must do, and do it night and day! Perhaps do a night cruise around Manhattan, that for me would be 100 times better?!
I guess if you like ferry trips though, go for it0
