Fordy- No, we stayed at the Holiday inn w57th street, had a very big room with 2 double beds, no shared bathroom, great location, 2 mins to T-Sq and 2 mins to central park, would def stay there again, we flew from London Heathrow.
I just booked there, used the IHC friends and family offer. Got it for $120 a night average over xmas.0 -
Ok I'll probably get a slapped wrist for not trawling through all the post on this thread but this is my scenario
I'm arriving at JFK at 11.20 on the morning of 13 August with my two teenage daughters. They have never been before I was last there in the 1985 so my knowledge of the transport system is limited.
I am staying at the Hotel Beacon on the upper West Side...could someone tell me the subway route there, and also would it be better to jump in a cab (assuming there are plenty of cabs hanging about)
How long does it take and the cost for subway and taxi
where do I get a bus ticket for 5 days from?
questions questions
er sorry marky0 -
There's stuff on the first post in thread that should answer all your questions

I'm breathing... i just google things for people, because this google is a very unheard of website that you can search for things...
ooh.. hopstop.com..
Start at JFK airport, get the airtrain,
go to Jamaica Station, then walk down the escalator, turn left, and go to the E train.
Go into Manhattan, and get off at 42nd St / Times Square
Change to the 2 train uptown.
Get off at 72nd Street, W 72nd St and Broadway
Turn Right on W73rd Street, Left onto Broadway going north (traffic will be going north too) , walk to W74th Street, and it should be there..
Simples!0 -
Ooo and the subway ticket is the bus ticket - just buy it from the machine for 7 days I think (or there may be a 5 day one check out mtas website)
(love that hopstop Marky)

there are 1 day, 7 day or 14 day subway tickets, there are longer ones too..
if you go for a ticket like that, you need 1 per person,
if you get a PAYG card, which you will need for the airtrain at $5 per person, you can use that for up to 4 people... it might be wise, when laden with luggage, just to get 1 ticket, with a value of $21, (buy a payg card worth $19.50 i think will hit that $21 for you), and then all 3 of you can get into manhattan on a single ticket, the same on the way back.
Once in Manhattan, you can then purchase your week long subway card, as you're not carrying loads of things, and less chance of getting it lost..
saying that, i've lost numerous subway cards in the past... thankfully they are cheap!0 -
god i hope this works out for me, im excited just thinking about it.
I've gone blind looking for hotel rooms these past few days.0 -

Ooo I really want to go to Brooklyn but my NY friends are snobby about the boroughs and say its not safe for me on my own and wont come with *huffs loudly*, but I do get free acomms so should stop complaining
Might take them to tower hamlets and show them rough when they are over0
