yes the subway card is worht it :D

JFK is the easist I've been to of there and Newark - La Gaurdia is for domestic and canadian flights so unless you change somewhere weird you're not going to land there ;)

Me and Marky were talking about the airtrain/subway combo from JFK the other day and its mucho cheaper than a taxi because the subway goes right up there nearly - for newark its airtrain (free) then train to Penn Station ($15 each) but taxi's there are more expensive as its out of state - I payed $80 dollars nearly including tip for an early morning cab when for two when I went

There's more in Marky's guide on getting into Manhattan :D

Fordy - its defo worth seeing if you can get a single room somewhere rather than paying for a two person room...not sure which hotels have them, but yes you'll pay over the odds a single traveller sadly :(

depends on the rate you're booking.. Expedia is a weird beast, and it always says you MAY have to pay taxes and fees, but never says anything concrete.

This is why i kinda like the american website https://www.hotelconxions.com it shows prices ex tax, but when you click through to book, you get a price including the tax, and you pay that there and then...

still cancelable for a $25 fee if the worst happens...

as for £1000 for a NYC holiday, well, at todays exchange rate, a direct flight from MAN - JFK, transfers are $7, as i'm going on the subway, my 7 nights in NYC is costing me £1311.16p

plus then beer tokens.. i mean spending money.... no i was right first time! ;)

well the taxes is only about £70, but thats not the issue. The inability to get a single room is so frustrating.

Its really going to cost that much and the only way i can get it lower is to go down the hostel/shared bathroom route shudder....

Fordy, if you can go from Birmingham, there is a chance of return flights for £225 though opodo's summer offer :) Hope this helps.

single rooms don't exist. All rooms are sold on a price basis of PER ROOM, so if it has a single bed in, it might stay empty a lot, so they'll make sure they can squeeze in a double bed regardless..

yes, it works out cheaper if there are 2 of you, as it's half the cost.. i holiday alone alot, and i'm used to the cost nowadays. Some hotels do offer rooms with 2 beds, and this is normally only around $30-$40 a night more than a room with 1 bed.
