If you want NYC luxury, you're going to pay for a price. 3* is by no means luxury in NYC. Think of a Holiday Inn Express in this country, basic room, small, small bathroom, no minibar, no room service, that is a 3* hotel in NYC.

If you want luxury, a mini bar, room service, a pillow menu (it's the new thing to be honest!) you could easily be looking up to £300-£400 a night, and i'm NOT kidding.

I am probably going to be hated for this. But hey. It's my opinion.

If you want pure luxury ie 5* then yes, you will pay that much. But, if you are looking for something nice, then it is easy to get a deal for less.

March, I paid £850 for 6 nights in the Doubletree times square, last April I paid £900 for 7 nights in the affinia dumont. I wouldn't consider either of these holiday inn express standard.

My advice to Fordy would be to read trip advisor, have a look at the reviews people give and also look at the pictures. They will give you a true feeling for what a hotel is like space wise and what you can get for your money.

If you want to stay in midtown, stay in midtown. Don't feel pressured into booking a 'cool' neighbourhood, it might not be for you.

Personally, being right in the middle of Times Square was a bit of a bind. It was very busy at night. But, there were plus sides. The space we had in the room was amazing and having a suite rather than a room made it alot easier to relax at night when we had tired feet and just wanted to snuggle.

Holidays are all about what suits individuals. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be in a touristy area because that is what you are, and the Cosmo isn't the only decent hotel in New York.

    Rant over.

If anyone is looking for nice (i.e clean and a fridge and lovely staff) and cheap ish try the Belleclaire on upper west side - its a FANTASTIC location for the park, museums and has great transport links (close to two lines about a block away each) - its not luxury by any means but is really good value and the staff are great :D

They have shared bathroom rooms and rooms with their own bathroom as well as a couple of suites - no I dont work for them but stayed in April for 7 nights (including one day where I had to sleep off the worst hangover EVER) and it was totally fine...

(I have 3 special glasses from them and that was after the rest of the stuff I drank too - the next day I couldnt actually move :rotfl:I did make it out for dinner though and then to M & M world so didnt lose a WHOLE day :p)

    Hi

any advice on purchasing theatre tickets for a new york show, should tickets be purchased prior to going or can you get a better deal there at the theatre.

I have looked at broadwaybox website and can't see any bargains - was looking for tickets for wicked but very expensive.

    Any advice.

    Thanks:o

I tried to make it there as I had checked out the menu (drinks that is) after you mentioned it before I went. Sadly I ended up spending too much time in Macys on the night we had planned to go and bed time caught up on me - honestly New York tired me out to the extent I was falling asleep by about 9/10.

I did get to the Shake Shack and had both cheese fries and a concrete mmmmm they were good. Hubby said the burger and milkshake were also of a good standard. Thanks for suggesting it Becky

You see, i wouldn't even drink it.. I'm a beer man.. I like my beer, and in NYC, maybe a shot as well, as that always seems to go down well, Jamesons is rather tasty after having loads bought for me on my birthday by bartenders, random strangers, oh, and the Law and Order Criminial Intent crew on my first night in NYC this year...

Shots of that and plenty of beer get me drunk!

Marky that place is a beer haven - worth a trip to UWS I reckon or can be tagged in with the Lincoln centre - which I must do next time on Thursday they have free/cheap rehersals for the orchestra - bonus :D
