i want a little bit of luxury marky. Plus, ive not tried booking anything on this scale before. In fact its been over 20 years since i had a real holiday and that was with my family.

I was going by what was on offer on their website, the prices are clearly bogus though.

if you could work up a quote for me I would be very grateful

    thanks

If you want NYC luxury, you're going to pay for a price. 3* is by no means luxury in NYC. Think of a Holiday Inn Express in this country, basic room, small, small bathroom, no minibar, no room service, that is a 3* hotel in NYC.

If you want luxury, a mini bar, room service, a pillow menu (it's the new thing to be honest!) you could easily be looking up to £300-£400 a night, and i'm NOT kidding.

I understand you want a nice holiday, but NYC is a city break. It is the city that never sleeps, so are you really going to benefit from a wonderfully luxurious hotel. You'll be up by 8am, out of the hotel by 10am, might pop back to drop things off get freshened up, and then out for some of the evening!

Yes, some people prefer different areas of NYC, and for a first time trip Midtown is a logical place, but the REAL New York in my opinion is below 23rd Street, this is where you find quirky little stores, bars that have been there for many a year with a history, and amazing restaurants at great prices.

Have a search around the following hotel sites - hotels.com / hotelconxions.com / quikbook.com / the latter 2 charge in $$ but sometimes have some great prices on that even hotels.com can't beat.

Once you find a hotel you think fits the bill, go into tripadvisor.com and read the reviews.

Then, let us know what you've found, and we'll see if we can beat it!

    Phew!

September can be HOT. i went 2 years ago in sept, and for the first 2 days, it was hot. When NYC is hot, it is also humid, you MUST carry a bottle of water around with you everywhere and keep hydrated, as you're walking so much.

thankfully most bars (can you tell i'm a beer monster) are air conditioned..

bargain for kuwait airways, it is a dry airline, so no beer on board... :D

oh, and one more thing to avoid in september is the week between the 11th and 18th... i'm in NYC then! :P

Travel Agents make it easy, they choose you a hotel, and a flight, and you have no control, DIY holidays, do take a bit more planning, but overall you get what YOU want, flights YOU want, staying somewhere YOU want. which overall is the best part of the holiday, so if you screw up (and I have once!) then you have no one to blame.

there are hundreds of hotels ranging from the very cheap to the very expensive, and I honestly urge you to really think about the luxury hotel idea... i'd rather stay at the reasonably priced Cosmopolitan, and spend more on a couple of nice meals, than have a nice hotel that I won't spend much time in.. i'm a barfly you see, and i'll prop up any bar and strike up a conversation while getting merrily drunk.. it's one of the highlights of NYC you see..

Oh, and one more thing. 3 months for me is the magic time to really start looking, hotel deals start appearing, airlines start reducing prices. I'm going in september, and I still haven't booked, I know i will, but i'm biding my time, and when I know it's the best i'll get, i'll book! I went in March this year, i booked in Jan...

should be fun for my Dh, if it aint beer flavoured he won't touch it:D

Thats no problem....I tend to sleep when I've had a drink anyway...such a lightweight:o And Dh won't drink on his own, makes him feel like an alchoholic:rotfl:

ooooooooh.... you can find apartment rentals, but 99.9% of apartment rentals in NYC are illegal.

This is mainly due to the law that say you can't rent an apartment for a period less than 31 days... so any vacation rentals are illegal.

The only "hotels" that offer suites that I know of, and have been mentioned many times, are the following

    Radio City Apartments
    Eastgate Tower Suite Hotel

and another one in tribeca way that's been mentioned here, but the name fails me...

and as for being in NYC while i'm around, maybe i should charge for tours, etc and see if i can pay for my trip to NYC AFTER that one that way.. hahah!

    Hey everyone,

    first post on here!

Myself and a family member are planning a trip to NY (august 26th - 1st september)

We have a budget of £550 each for our flight + hotel, or maybe a little more. So far i'm struggling to find a good deal for a room with TWO beds. Ideally we'd like a 3 star hotel, the Affinia Manhattan has good reviews but i can't find a decent price.

We'll fly from any London airport.

If anyone has any links etc, would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

While probably not as nice as the Affinia, perhaps consider the nearby Four Points by Sheraton, Chelsea? Booked as a package on Expedia taking the Kuwait Airways flight from LHR, it comes into your budget.

And Chelsea is a much nicer area than Midtown IMO

    Hello again!

Thanks for the help everyone. Just looking up the four points one now.

    Have found a few hotels at a decent price and just wondered if you think they're good value, they are;

    Park central
    New York Helmsley
Affinia Shelburne (really like the look of this one)

I think we can stretch a little over budget for these. Flights seem to be around the £260/280 mark.

Expedia so far seems to give the best price on most hotels.
