    Hi Guys,

We go in November, paid £550, for Virgin flights and 5 nights in Hotel Reserve

I'm looking at doing the movie tour, top of the rock, going up the empire state building and a full island cruise. Has anyone done any of these, are they recommended?

    Thanks

hi stacey... click search this thread at the top of the page, and you can find out what people think about top of the rock, and the empire state, and the movie tour

i don't think island cruise has being mentioned though..

hotel reserve is downtown, so, not within walking distance of totr or empire state btw... read my guide about getting around manhattan for info on the subway, as it'll be your friend getting from lower manhattan to midtown..

I am going to New York in December. I have been looking at the Intercontinetal friends and family offer. Got a hotel for £660 for 7 nights. Its in a good place, NYC MADISON SQUARE GARDEN would I get a better deal using priceline or one of the other types?

Also I am looking for flights, but they are around £330 at the moment. Not sure if they will get any cheaper? Any ideas.

anything under £100 a night in New York is good? *wonders if anyone ever reads anything I say*

oh.. and £330 for a flight in december is good.. high season.. in low season getting a flight under £300 is the aim, so if you're looking at £330 you're sorted..

    1 - minimum 4 nights
2 - £100 a night for hotel, less if you go for something with shared bathroom / hostel - £300 ish for direct from from BHX
3 - read the thread, plenty of suggestions
    4 - as question 3
5 - this is the new york thread, i'm not going to break the thread by discussing any other destinations. ;)

Wow, this is one I can help with!! Last time I was in New York was about nine years ago (looking forward to finally visiting again in November), while we were there we did the Round Island tour, very good and informative, however we were there in November and it was absolutely bl**dy freezing, by the time we were halfway round we were desperate to get off the boat we were so cold. Just worth thinking about as you're heading out there in November.

    Markymoo, your help please......

Been looking at flights to NY, had to wait for confirmation that my mother can have dates off work.
Was planning to travel with Delta from MAN ( In Nov) its about £330. Found out now that any bookings made after 22nd April means you only get 1 piece of baggage to check in and for a second bag have to pay $50.

Deltas flights say operated by Airfrance.
I went onto Airfrance website and theres says operated by Delta. So does this mean may get delta outbound/ air france inbound?
Do you know wheather airfrance have seatback videos like Delta?

Also its £20 more for Airfrance flight but if they let you have two bags its obviously cheaper booking with them than paying $100 for mine and my mothers second bag with Delta.
Ive tryed to to find out my baggage allowance on the website (Voyageur/ Economy ) but it keeps saying ' not responding' try again later.

Do you know how many bags they let you check in to NY from MAN? or does it work for you, maybe its just my computer?

    Thanks:T

if they are both direct flights, they will both be Delta flights, It's only if you change at CDG that you'll be flying on AirFrance metal.

I've also noticed the 2nd bag charge on international flights, which i don't think anyone else is doing just yet.

I flew AF years ago, and hated it, as they really were unhelpful and also on night flights they turn the heat up, as, according to them, it's what people want, and we don't have control over it (coughs)

i personally won't fly AF, on any segment, so i'd look at different flights, because of personal preference.

Continental also fly MAN - EWR, but as of October, they are leaving skyteam and going into star alliance, so that has an effect if you're collecting delta/klm/air france points. (which i do)

also, i'm thinking that even if you're flying on delta metal, but with an air france ticket, you are probably still stuck with delta policies... i'm not sure on that, so it might be something to look into

    Hi guys,

I am planning a surprise visit to New York for my Fiancee in September, I have been looking around and the most tempting deals so far seem to be around £750pp from Virgin Atlantic (I have tried expedia and seen some good ones for £600pp but every time I try to book, the price switches and it comes up double, well done them).

Can anyone reccomend any other companies that do a good deal for a 4 night trip to NY (I'm planning on flying from Manchester by the way).

Additionally, VA has some special offers for 17thMay-End of June, would I be better off booking in advance now, or holding off until 4-6 weeks before and booking then? Is it worth the risk or will be left with having to pay far over the odds for what I'm looking for?

    Last points:

I'm not particularly bothered where abouts in NY we stay so long as it's vaugely central to the tourist stuff, we don't have to be close to any one thing, and obviously hygenic, vaugely attractive etc etc.

I'm looking at 4 nights between 17th & 22nd Sept, I've had a quick look on the web and can't see any reason why to not choose that long weekend, but is there any reason I shouldn't because an event or something will make it too busy?

    Thanks,

    Matt
