yeah true true...
the only problem with NYC and drinking, and stick with me here is this..
now.. afternoon drinking is great fun... start at 2pm, and drink, but then, it gets to 6pm, and you're DRUNK, then you need to have a nap, so you can't stay any longer to keep having a conversation with person.... , and then get ready to go out again, for evening meal, so 9pm to a restaurant/bar, and then you drink steadily... so you can't stay any longer to keep having a conversation with person....
bar hopping for a bit, and by 1am, you're screwed.. and as you're bar hopping you can't stay and keep talking to the same person*
but.. as it's NEWSODDINGYORK, you can't have a lie-in in the morning to recover, because by 8am, its gorgeous outside, and you just want get out and about and do loads of stuff... then by 2pm, it's afternoon drinking time
it's all a vicious circle really...

P.S there is one way to break said, you can't stay any longer rule...0 -
When we got tickets from broadway box for spamalot we printed the tickets at home, so no need to pick em up, and we bought them direct with brodwaybox so no need to go through ticketmaster.
This year might book though broadway box and print tickets off.

6 hours sleep and far too much beer the NHS would say i'm probably dead, i think having an afternoon nap is perfectly acceptable...
I know it is.I hardly ever drink, so if I drunk for only half an hour, I would be napping, singing on a table, or snoozing on the shoulder of a complete stranger.

On th subject of hostels - I'm staying at the Belleclaire in the room with a shared bathroom and its probably about as cheap as I would go
But there are a few in tribeca (jazz hostel??) that are supposed to be okay
Botanical garden was lush and it was nice to see a bit of the bronx, although there was a man on the subway with a knife!!!! No one else bated an eyelid though!!!
Off out to the Boat Basin for dinner soon and then to the dead poet for drinks0 -

Great way to forget about your aches from the marathon..
Am looking at going for about 10 days in September, staying with family in Mount Kisco for most with as many nights in hotel in nyc as I can afford. Trying to stick with Markymoo's 3 month rule but the flights are looking cheap just now so don't want to hold out any longer.. just waiting on mum getting back to me about using her credit card to book so everything crossed..
Has anyone used any of the hostels in NYC ? Have heard horror stories about most but would maybe consider it if anyone could reccomend any ?
I will pop over to Trip Advisor and have a look too..
We stayed in the Big Apple Hostel in Times Square. It was cheap and cheerful. We stayed in a private room which was very basic but clean.
Personally though, I would recommend HOTWIRE anyday, you can get good hotels for $99 a night, and if you have half a brain on ya, you can work out which hotel you are going to get by looking on betterbidding.com, if you need some help, I will be more then willing to do some detective work for you, or anyone else who wants to go down this route, though to be aware, you can never be 100% about it.0
