  • Going on the 23rd with OH and kids aged 13 & 8. Any particular recommendations for places to eat? Don't really want to be eating at chain restaurants the whole time and the suggestions we have had so far from friends look a little too upmarket.

Also, markymoo - did you do your day to Washington DC and did you think it was worth the trip?

Helllllooooo its much cooler today - just chugging down some coffee and off out to the botanical gardens :D

Went to LES yesterday and spent $20 in economy candy :D, but we got totally done in a liquor store with a bottle wine that was gross - and Marky why do you like it down there?? Its rough! ;)

And the new subway station at South Ferry is super pretty!

    Have fun all!

LES is great, and it isn't rough at all... maybe you don't appreciate the non gentrification of the area of New York...

Oooh.. sounds like your having a fab time! you're making us all jealous!!
Great way to forget about your aches from the marathon..

Am looking at going for about 10 days in September, staying with family in Mount Kisco for most with as many nights in hotel in nyc as I can afford. Trying to stick with Markymoo's 3 month rule but the flights are looking cheap just now so don't want to hold out any longer.. just waiting on mum getting back to me about using her credit card to book so everything crossed..
Has anyone used any of the hostels in NYC ? Have heard horror stories about most but would maybe consider it if anyone could reccomend any ?
I will pop over to Trip Advisor and have a look too..

Jacquiesce - didn't you say that the delta flight was £288.40 from EDI?

if so, i'd break my 3 month rule and just book something now, as that is the price i paid for delta from MAN for my March Holiday..

wow.. 10 days.... i have no one out there i can crash with, so yeah, i'm stuck in hotels, and refuse to lower my considerably high standards to stay in a hostel, so it's either 6 or 7 nights for me, around 10th - 17th September i'm thinking!!

depends if you can find me... NYC is sooooooo huge!!!

WRT tickets, we went to the tickets booth last summer, and there was NOTHING the boys wanted to see.

We'd wanted to see The Wicked Witch of the West (think that's what it's called, and I looked in advance, but it was hugely expensive for 5, so we didn't see a show.

Went to the cinema 3 nights in a row, however! Saw Dark Knight before it was out over here.

So what that boils down to is that if you want to see a particular show, and it's a popular one, you'd probably want to pre-book.
