Thanks for the reply.
I have been to NYC before, and probably will do again, but this is likely to be our only trip as a family. I wasn't sure whether it was worth missing a day in NYC for.
As I am the one most keen to go, I think I will probably save it for a future visit.
Will check the site out for restaurants as well. :beer:0 -
As we're talking about day trips we're planning a day trip to Philadelphia, its about 90 minutes by train, anybody else tried this before??

First time we went to NYC we had a day out of the city at Redbank NJ. ( to visit the secret stash). It was nice to be out of the city, and also nice to witness a bit more of the good ole USA. However, it felt like we were rushed in seeing the sights because of this day out where we had paid to be.
How long are you staying? Is this your first trip?0 -
Not our first trip but it is 10ish years since we were last there, just felt a change of scenery would be nice and get the chance to see some of the historic places in Philly, we are in New York for 6 nights in November before flying down to Orlando for another 10 nights.
Thanks for your response,

Sorry for the ignorance, LadyS, what is in Redbank?
Stew, I am also thinking of perhaps going to Philadelphia, since either Boston or Washington would warrant a few days each (so I will leave that for next time), so this was the second best option. We are staying 10 days in NY, but since this is our first time we are thinking of keeping our options open. I am trying to book boltbus or megabus tickets (preferebly really cheap ones) to have the option to got to Philly if we think we need a break from NY. Otherwise we just loose the bus money (which I am hoping will be $4).The bus tickets are available 2 months or so in advance.
The train seemed a nice option but it is very expensive, even if we were sure we could spare the day from NY.0 -

I'm back
And jet lagged
WOW what a good trip - only missed one thing on the list this time - went to the wrong botanical garden for the cherry blossom festival (ooppps)
Managed not to buy anything again, although I did actually go into some shops this time
On the scout for October trip now - got an offer to house sit for some friends in UES when they go away for halloween so I get free accoms again - yippee
On the Belleclaire - it was fine, but basic - very clean and the staff were very friendly - so if anyone wants a cheap basic hotel in UWS then go for it - but dont expect anything plush (although the room fridge was great)
Happy trips all!0
