Marky, yes, it was the silent stash we went to. My husband is a massive Kevin Smith fan. However, this time we agreed we would stay in the city and he spent more than i did on my ugg boots in midtown comics. Oh, we also had a look in forbidden planet down at union square and jim hanleys comic book store on 33rd.
If anyone needs information about this type of stuff I will ask him.0 -
snoogans... i've been to the secret stash twice now, dragged the whole family out once too, mum and dad loved it, sister said it was too cold, had lunch at the pub opposite the stash, and then walked back to the train statinon.. love the stash....
"Affleck you the bomb in Phantoms, Yo!"
Another comic book nerd here, what is the easiest way to get out to Red Bank Marky? I don't know this end of NJ at all, Bayonne and Elizabeth are my limitationsbut I would love to get out there in October when we are over for Halloween

Floyd, we took the train from Penn Station, and from the station you just walk about a mile out to it. ( right out the train station, walk to the end of the road, take a left at the T junction and it is just down on your right opposite star bucks )0

yup... exactly what Lady S said... direct train from NY Penn on NJ Transit... takes about 45 minutes the train does.. .0

Just popping in to say have been and loved it, came back yesterday and slept most of the day to recover, didn't help that our flight was delayed for 2 hours at JFK just sitting on the plane on the way home.
Did most of the main sites except get to Liberty Island, went to Comic Strip Live and a musical and also saw some of a new Nicholas Cage film being shot in Times Square which then made its way onto BBC news as the stuntman lost control of a car a few hours later, I stayed at the Wellington and it has an amazing location and was a nice hotel too.
Thanks for all the tips, I hope to go again one dayNow a SAHM trying to earn some spare pennies each month0 -
lilmissmup i'm glad you had a lovely time.
Ive just booked my trip for November 09.
Markymoo: Decided to go with Delta to JKF. Although only allowed to check in 1 suitcase on website it says your allowed 1 item of handluggage + one personal item so we are going to check in one bag, bring a smaller suitcase to take onboard plus carry a handbag ( as personal item) so i dout we'll even need to check in a second bag.
Found a good deal on the New yorker : This is our room http://www.newyorkerhotel.com/renovation.html
A double double room so a double bed eachwith a view of the hudson river or the Empire state ( ive requested Empire state)
6 nights Hotel + flights is £700 each. I'm happy with this price concidering we have a double bed each and will have a great view. Expedia is quoting £850 each for same hotel room & flight.:eek:New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

yeah... £100 a night for a hotel in midtown ain't too bad to be honest... you've got quite a good deal there...
just one thing.. how much time are you planning in spending in your hotel room, that you need such a great view though?0 -
Lol I know exactly what you mean, theres no way id pay extra for a view. We payed the extra for the 2 double beds!!
Last last time we went we shared one double bed but id say it was just a little bigger than a single- not a double. So we didnt sleep well at all.
At least this time we will sleep great and it only works out at £10 extra a night each which am more than willing to pay for a good nights sleep.
I didnt know at the time a views included with a double double it was only when i got to checkout i seen that it was so because an added bonus i thought id request city view. Last time we went we didnt have a view, could hardly call it a window lolNew York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

I think a view is important because im not a good sleeper (home or on hols ) so i can sit up and world watch most of the night . But i dont think they have charged extra for the view because they ask after whatview do you want. That flight and hotel in the newyorker (art deco is so synonymous with new york) and wedding cake tiered building. Its my birthday in Nov and that tempts me too. I was in scotland last weekend and as checking in said to reception "i hope we have a good view"Just to make polite conversation and a cheeky ask. She changed the room number and got a upgrade to the room with the best view (other rooms were street or other pubs beer garden) we had rolling hills over roof and treetops. worth asking no extra price either:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Oh I can beat that. First time I went, we got snowed in at JFK and were sat on the plane on the runway for 6 hours! Then we had to get off and come back the next morning. Didn't put me off going back though.A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0
