  • Just a thought Greenpixey, but have you tried asking on the Knit Your Square thread for help. Some of the people on there do crochet. Sorry I can't help personally but am still a novice with crochet myself. Thank you for info re wool in Aldi. I noticed that my local Poundstretcher have 500g packs of DK for £3.99 also. Regards, Kath
  • Up until 2 months ago, the only other crocheter I knew was my mum; I have now taught a friend the basics and another friend has taken out a subscription to the partwork and is making a granny square blanket for her son. I have a blanket, a jacket and a pair of fingerless mitts on the go; picking up each according to the amount of time I have/the number of cats in the room taking an interest in my wool/ what colour makes me happy at a given moment. While I like knitting, I find crochet flows better - and its far less annoying to sort out your mistakes.

I am so delighted that crochet is popular enough to have its very own thread here, plus a partwork and new magazines! I have been lurking quite a while. All of your projects look amazing; and I have enjoyed looking at some of your blogs too. If I manage to finish anything I will post some pics!

If you want a pattern for a lovely scarf have a look at doyoumindifiknitdottypepaddotcom where Vanessa has posted instructions for a wonderful crochet scarf. Another thing for my 'want to make' list !

Edit: Just had a little root around that blog and it's lovely - if you like Attic 24 you'll appreciate it.

  • Its all penelope penguins fault!
On a whim I decided to learn to crochet for lent! Got my new hooks and some wool yesterday, and was at it for about 7 hours all in all lol!
Managed this far on a "scarf" ...

and then gave up! About half an hour later, I tried a different hook and wool, and ignored patterns and the you tube lady and made this!!!! (okay so its notquite a granny square, but its close right!!)

Am now hooked - literally, and I can only get better! - cant get worse!
I am going to try that pretty little flower scarf that was just posted, so in about 20 years I will come back and post a pic :D

:o thank you! That can be project number 2 as it sounds more complicated than the scarf! All those treble things and bobbles!
Would love to be able to make them as I think they would be lovely as alot of things, but from little acorns....
Off to try a flower :D

    greenpixey she's gorgeous!
    Well done :T
Saw your request for help but couldn't help as I have never done anything 3d in crochet - I admire your amigurumis hugely.

  • Finally finished my granny square blanket! Can't wait to post it to my friend in Japan, she's had such a rotten time recently, I hope this will cheer her up a bit :)

That's gorgeous! I am making a hideous granny square blanket with garish bright cheap acrylics. I am hoping it will have kitsch charm: it's all red, orange, yellow, green and black!

I haven't had time to read the whole thread yet as I am a new member. But is anyone on ravelry? It's a good, free website with lots of free patterns, US based but worth registering.
