Finally finished my granny square blanket! Can't wait to post it to my friend in Japan, she's had such a rotten time recently, I hope this will cheer her up a bit :)

What a pretty blanket, I always like the colours when someone puts a pic up, you have to have an eye for it don't you? My favourite colours are sort of vintage sagey greens and cranberry and cream at the mo.

Pink_numbers, those colours remind me of American Folk Art. I'm sure your friend will cherish it.
  • pink_numbers that is a beautiful blanket :) The colours really compliment each other.

I don't believe in the concept of hell, but if I did I would think of it as filled with people who were cruel to animals.

  • Wow, pink_numbers that's a lovely blanket, what a lot of work, what a lot of ends to weave in, well done,

  • Thank you very much for all your lovely comments :)

Since I hate weaving in the ends, I decided to deal with the ends as I went along (just crochet them), so there were no weaving to be done, and no needle ever came out! BLISS!
  • I havent really read all the pages on here, just saw first couple of posts, and last couple.

I like crocheting BUT havent really done it properly, b4 i left home (ooo 10 years ago now) i crocheted some funky colour bags prom some patterns i had got from a very old teach yaself crochet, I have now made subsription to "The art of crochet" so will be starting to work myself through that, and have had a good look at the website that was posted in the first couple of posts for free patterns.

I know it might be a strange question, but is it possible to actually maybe make money out of making things by crochet, and possibly selling them? As its something id like to look into!
  • Wow! What a long thread! I just wanted to join in and say that I too love crochet! I haven't read all 500+ posts so I don't know if either of these have already been mentioned but - I learnt from the Happy Hooker book (by Debbie Stoller I think) - the terminology is American but it explains the stitiches so well, I learnt in a week! Also the attic24 blog has some fabulous free tutorials that really explain the basics for beginners (type "attic24 blog" into google to find it..I am too new to post links!)

ceejaydee - definitely! You can sell handcrafted work on places like folksy and etsy! It's something I definitely intend to do some day soon! Anything to bring in those extra pennies!

Has anybody tried this method of starting crochet where there is no foundation chain? http://serendipity.gpvm.com/no_chain.html

I just found it this morning. I think I'll give it a go later on and see how I get on.
