Hub says he'll disown me if I make one of those!

Maybe I'll make a wide uterus one for Mr Shortie for his phone, and not tell him that the dangly bits are

It'll be like a personal joke.. just don't know if I'll be able to keep a straight face when I see it, and he night think I'm going loopy :rotfl:

Sorry a quick question if I may.. I popped this into another crochet thread but wasn't sure if anyone in here might know...?

    Please excuse the duplicate post...

I want to do the shawl from part 4 of the Art of Crochet (it took me 2 very odd looking, totally worng attempts before I twigged what I was supposed to be doing, lol....) but the pattern suggests using 7 x 50g Cashmere Merino Silk DK.

I'm trying to use up what I already have in and have some balls of 59% acrylic / 41% wool, 1oz (28.35g) of Patons 4 Season's wool (sorry, not sure how much of that is relevant :rotfl:)

Would I need 14 balls of this (I don't have that much) or would I get more/less length of wool in this lighter weight of a different woll (if that makes sense?)

I think what I'm trying to ask is... how many balls of this wool would I need instead?

    Thank you!

  • I need to get my Aunt to show me next time she comes to visit!
I will get the hang of it. I bought some lovely yarn to crochet with today. It's called paintbox by Robin. It's all bright multicolours :D Would show off well in squares if I can get them right!

Well Auntie came to visit tonight, I can now figure where I was going wrong!
I have homework for next week :D

    If I master the basics, I'll post a picture for y'all ;)

It says here that cashmere merino silk is 116m long, you need 7 balls so that's 812 meters.

    http://www.paviyarns.co.uk/shop/413/730/732/index.htm

It also states the tension as 22st (normally this is to 4inches)

So the ball band of your patons should state the tension, if similar it will be fine, i wouldn't have thought tension would be crucial in a shawl!

Now it should also state what length the balls are. if in total you have 812 meters then you will have enough.

if you don't have enough you could buy something or a similar weight to make up the difference and perhaps do stripes or use it for a border (just a suggestion as I've not seen the pattern you have)

HTH and doesn't confuse more x
  • Yesterday I started a 'ripple' baby blanket from the wonderfully clear instructions on attic24.

I am using pink and white LO/reclaimed yarn so stash busting while I produce a pretty blanket for a baby girl. The next baby girl to arrive in my life will have this blanket waiting for her and I will have a cheap pressie at the ready.

Hi all! Right have had my second crochet class and finally have mastered something! I can do the double stitch in a line or in a circle. I sort of played about with it last night.....

I think it makes a bit more sense now - but how do you find the tutorials in Attic 24? I can't seem to find them although |I am sure they are glaring at me. :_)

Thanks karmacookie that makes perfect sense :)

Thank for th link, I've now been scouring to check for the length of what I have (I'm embarrassed to say I didn't think of doing that before) but have had no luck so have resorted to emailing Patons direct. Fingers crossed they will reply otherwise I'll be resorting to unravelling the ball of woll and getting out my tape measure, lol :rotfl:
