Eventually got around to crocheting the Valentine Hearts from this site
    http://belladia.typepad.com/bella_dia/2008/02/sweet-heart-cro.html.
Really pleased with the outcome and they were so easy to do. Here they are in all their glory over my fireplace.

Well, those might be easier to work with than squares! I have tried another square and I'm still running off on one side :wall::wall::wall::wall::wall::wall:

Maybe that will work for me too - now where's that pink wool?

You just have to count the doubles in the row you are working on and make sure you do the same number of doubles in the next one, ie one into the top of each existing double. The turning chains are in addition to to the doubles, not in place of the end ones.

  • Thank you so much for your lovely comments :A
arkonite_babe I just googled...crochet a perfect square...and quite a few sites came up with some simple instructions, if that helps, sometimes some are easier to follow than others. How about practising with say 15 chains, always remembering to crochet an extra chain before you turn and keeping count of your stitches. If you start to get one less you might be able to pinpoint where the problem is (if only it was that simple)
Hope that helps and don't give up :)

HariboJunkie found these for you, they look very sweet

After seeing this I am nearly sad that I don't need one :rotfl::rotfl:

On a fairly serious note am looking forward to trying a ripple blanket next, at the moment am still working on the baby snowflake cape...am never, ever, ever going to make something that needs a size 2 hook again, its been hard going.

Loving seeing what everyone else is making.

  • And I thought that crochet would be a good stress reliever while I'm off work sick. Now I'm beginning to wonder if I'd be better off back at work??? :D

Aw I wish I could help more, it really is such a relaxing pastime. Wonder if there's a knitting/crochet group that meets up near you that you could pop to just for the one session. It sounds like all you need is that one minor thing shown to you that seems to be throwing you and you'd be well away. As others have said there are some great tutorials on you tube that might see you through.

  • I need to get my Aunt to show me next time she comes to visit!
I will get the hang of it. I bought some lovely yarn to crochet with today. It's called paintbox by Robin. It's all bright multicolours :D Would show off well in squares if I can get them right!
