Now granny squares are really my think. 2 row granny squares come out like patchwork.
. Then just oversew them together and make something utterly amazing. Easy and not much counting...Remember if looking at a US pattern the double is a treble...that's about all you need to know. Not exactly complicated.
Well done to the beginner who has mastered trebles - go you!!! Took me ages to master trebles as a beginner.. (and I learnt off the net when there were hardly any instructions online about 10 or so years ago).
I personally am not keen on videos. Prefer line drawn charts.
Don't forget 'australia crochet' (sorry not allowed to post links) and search for their instructions which are pretty good. Highly recommended.
Also with regards granny squares...want some mega cool patterns? Type in patchwork crochet afghans into ebay and you'll come up with a tonne by leisure arts (just don't buy the whole lot like I did the other year LOL. Not very MSE).
A simple scarf can be made using chunky and size 6 hook (if you can do trebles)...and sold on folksy..
Pattern a doddle (I made it up).
Cast on the width (you decide)...
3 row (I think) pattern
Row 1 - doubles (UK - Singles US)
Row 2 - doubles (UK - Singles US)
Row 3 - chain 3, one chain (UK), 1 treble (double us) to end. Preferably ending with a treble I think? (dunno long time since I made this scarf).
Make this about 6 foot long for the winter. (will only take about a week) Size 6 hook min. if not bigger. When you've done 6 foot, edge with double/single crochet and then add your fave tops and bottoms (I think I made up a fishy scale thing using all my stiches, well all three. But you could add tassles or anything. Tassles would be easiest.)
What's everyone making right now? I've just finished knitting a hat for the sailors society (got the wool/yarn free from Land's End in the autumn) and am now doing a simple log cabin afghan/throw for my sofa. Try and pay no more than £1.10 for 100g of double knitting.
Do we have a list of good free patterns anywhere on this thread? 2 seperate for knitting/crochet.
And I hope to go to knittiing group in Aberdeen this week run by the council in Loch St. I will find out about it hopefully today and post. Think it'll be full of old ladies but that's fine by me
Hugs

Csarina - if you are near any second hand shops, ask . They don't tend to keep them out on the shelves in case Kiddies get them.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
