That really looks very pretty, wish I could crochet better - I need some practise I think! Youtube is great for crochet though. I've found more Christmassy crochet stuff whilst Googling around for Christmas present ideas, may help someone - it's a collection of free crochet patterns from all around the 'net.

skip next sc, dc in next 2 sc, dc into skipped sc workingicon1.png around the last 2 dc (this dc encloses the last 2 dc); repeat from * to last sc; dc in last sc; turn.

First of all, remember that this is an American pattern, so the sc will be double crochet in UK terms, and dc will be trebles.
So, when you have made your previous row of all trebles, you turn your work and make 3 chain to start the row ( this is your first treble), you leave the next 2 stitches from the previous row, then make your next 2 trebles into the next 2 stitches.
This is up to where you're puzzled.
Make your next treble (dc) into the stitch before the 2 that you've just made. Your hook will go sort of backwards on itself into the front of the work and pull the wool through from the back. This will enclose the 2 trebles, making a cross-over, a bit like cable knitting, then follow the pattern along.

  • :T Thank you Mrcd my impatience allowed me to work it out that it was a cross type stitch. However, :( I have been doing single crochet and double crochet as per uk stitches dam!!! It looks ok but I think it will take a lot of wool to get to desired result as it is tighter due to this. Another problem I am having is keeping a straight edge to one side the number of bobbles started at 89 and are now 86  I am determined to conquer this pattern as it will be lovely when finished. Am I right in saying that the number of bobbles should be half the 179 stitches that the pattern says you should have at end row 1. God I feel such a novice :o
