I like The Wool Warehouse, Deramores and Black Sheep Yarn if that helps. Worsted may not be a term you will find often in a UK shop - may need to consider Aran or Chunky,

I find when using DK that the work seems to be really thin and quite "holey" looking.

I have tried using chunky and Aran wool and much prefer that, only thing is I have lots of spare bits of DK that I could be using up?

    What do you all do?

    Sally,
I make scarves and hats for the shoebox appeal, and if you use 2 strands of DK together you can get some lovely mixtures and effects.

Thanks PlymouthMaid. I've now purchased some from one of those websites. I haven't a clue wat worsted actually means but that's wat the pattern said lol. Just waiting for it to arrive now

I prefer to use DK, I find anything thicker is too thick! If you think it is "holey" looking I wonder if you have the correct tension? Just a thought.

I crotcheted a blanket (years ago) in DK. Well 2 actually. One was a granny squares one and the other a simple trebles V stitch in stripes using oddments (a lot of oddments) of wool. Before I started I sorted the yarn into colour piles so that the blanket was kind of rainbow shaded. That particular blanket was a favourite with my dogs! So much so that I made them some small crotchet blankets of their own!

Oddments: crotchet flowers- for ornaments on hats, gloves or brooches.

Granny squares which can be used for almost anything including slippers, bags, cushion covers....

I use mainly double knitting and don't find that it seems holey so long as I use a 3.5-4mm hook.

FabB - glad you found what you needed. I think your pattern must be an American one (majority are) so make sure you use the right stitches as their terminology is different.

I am off to my sofa now for some hooky time with my blanket - so cold here and it is an excuse to snuggle up.

  • I'm sitting here looking at 34 balls of DK, 2 each of 17 colours, and trying to decide what to do with them.

I want to make a blanket for my double bed, but I don't want to do any type of squares or a Granny Stripe. I'm also a bit 'rippled out' after doing far too many rippled cushions for Christmas. :o

After spending days on the Internet, I'm still not inspired by anything I've seen. Back to the drawing board...
