Morning all
I have just discovered that garnstudio.com (drops) have 70,000 free patterns to print!
Ive got some lovely ones, not sure if its a one off or regular but thought id share0 -

That's lovely, Bella79 but I haven't reached that standard yet. My problem is following a pattern that is anything more than basic. I will get there though.
I want to make some granny squares using Cath Kidston colours and have been looking around for appropriate yarn. I like using cottons but have decided to make my blanket in pure wool as I don't like working with acrylics (sp??).
But, isn't it expensive? I have found some Rowan DK in a limited range of colours for £3.99 for a 50g ball. Just wondered if anyone here knows of a good site for buying online, preferable with free p&p. We do have a nice craft shop locally but it is so expensive. I need to do my crafts on a budget as I am retired. I guess I could get through 10 balls in a month so it works out quite dear. Made me think of, when I was young, in the 60s, the local wool shop used to put yarn away for you to buy as you needed it so that you could be sure of the same colour batch. I wonder if that still happens these days?
Anyway, would also like any suggestions for appropriate colours for CK if anyone has already source them, thanks.0 -

I prefer using cotton over wool, just such a nicer feel.
My local wool shop keeps the batch by for you if you ask. I rememebr i got soo into this one project taht i spent £25 on these tiny little balls and needed a good few more, at my next pay day i went and bough the rest that she had kept by for me. The project is still a wip. glad i bought the balls now though as the shop shut recentlybut a few of the other shops keep them for us h3ere.
I have bought from kemp wools before. stylecraft wool would possibly be in colour ranges of cath kidson and due to the popularity of Attic 24, many online places have deals on those types of colours.Living Simply, not simply living.Weight Loss - 5b/55lb

Good Afternoon Everyone!
I'm a brand new newbie here. I do lots of other crafts, including knitting, but I've never been able to get my head round Crochet.
I've tried watching the tutorials on You Tube and bought books, but I still get so confused!
I never know which "hole" to put the hook into! When it says second from the hook etc or whether to put it all the way through to the back, or pick up just the front loop of the stitch etc.
Grrr, it's so confusing! lol

Do any of your local wool shops have classes or knit and natter groups? Worth asking in the shops as someone might be able to show you what to do... even the owners!
Crotchet is really very easy... always go thro both loops (unless told otherwise.) Counting stitches from hook- is usually for turning a row so that sides stay straight. Easy to pull down and do again... but always easier to be shown at the start, it took me ages to get the hang of the rows.
Start with a granny square because no turning is involved, if you can master that with regular tension you can move on!

second from hook - the hole ur hook is through, count 2 from that one and thats the hole u need.
when you do a chain, you should see a fishtail pattern or a V shape pattern. you want you put your hook through so that the V is still their just now resting on you r hook, you should have 1 strand under the hook, wrap wool round pull through.
If you use one strand of the V you are sort of changing the direction of your work. e.g. base of a cupcake using both strands of V untill edge, using 1 strand of V for 1 row and then back to 2 strands will allow me to make base and sides in one go.Living Simply, not simply living.Weight Loss - 5b/55lb

Thank you ladies!
I've started doing a granny square, which I think is (almost) right, I'll post a photo later and you can tell me where I'm going wrong! lol
Thanks
