I'm getting back into the crochet. I'm still at quite a beginner level, but am enthusiastic!!
I have two baby boys due in the next few months and wondered if there were any simple free patterns for making gifts for them? I'm doing each one a blanket already.0 -

I feel sure you could make some crotchet toys. Most of them will be in double crotchet because you need a firm "fabric" without holes or the stuffing will pop out . Look at this website when you click on the picture of a toy you like the instructions appear.(I thought the owl rattle was fun and the tutorial showed stages)

or this site

I particularly liked the granny square with added head. That would be easy for a baby to grasp- instructions not so clear! but maybe you could invent your own heads!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Just be aware that the teddy doudou pattern is written in US terms- but essentially it's in double crotchet. Also the teddy rattle (US terms) - in the 10 baby patterns- but she has good tips for making baby toys. She puts a rattle insert inside. Just found this site which has assorted noises - not just rattles-for toys!
http://oddsandsoxlets.co.uk/store/toy-noise-inserts-makers/
But you could put in bells. Put them in a small fabric bag inside so that they still jingle and aren't muffled by stuffing but can't escape either!
The ring toy looks easy (on both sites, I think)- and good but I think I would make it in cotton so that it could get a hot wash!!
There are some cute things to make- have fun!! Looks like you crotchet in a spiral so no need to bother with those turning stitches!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

This is a tutorial I found easy to follow:

Funny how some tutorials just click!
Me too! That's how I learned how to do a granny square with little tin birds blog. Attic 24 has some lovely ideas, love her use of colour, I find her blog very inspiring!
Have made a few bits and pieces since I started crochet a couple of months ago. A hat, wrist warmers, a jar hugger, a case for my phone, a flower brooch, have edged a fleece with crochet, a string bag. Have a few half finished things I will go back to because I haven't quite figured out where I am going wrong in the pattern but I just unravel and start again when I have a clear head. I seem to just figure it out eventually. I have a collar that's been unravelled a few times and a cardi I've just started but will go back to.0 -

In the past I've gone months without doing any knitting or crocheting, usually because I was too busy with the kids but sometimes I just lost the urge.
I joined a forum a few months ago for making things for charity and now I've been brave enough to go to a couple of monthly meeetings that's keeping me motivated.
I normally have a few things on the go which makes it easier if I get fed up of one for a while.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
