    JumbleJack those are awesome :D:D

I'm still failing at crochet, feel like I really need someone to show me in person. The terminology confuses me and I'm finding it hard doing everything right handed (I'm a lefty). But I WILL conquer this eventually, hopefully it will be easier once I have been able to watch the tutorial videos with sound on ;)

Would love to make something like this eventually:

What sort of stitches are used in this please?

Those look like granny squares, made up of treble crochet stitches (UK naming, US is different). Easy to do, it is just where the stitches are positioned that makes the shape. If you look on youtube you will find lots of videos how to make the basic granny square.

Thankyou :) Expecting a couple of pregnancies (fingers crossed) of close relatives to be announced in the coming year so would be nice to be prepared :T

very pretty orkneystar. I've been trying to do a nice headband, but not succeeding. first one was too long and thin, second one very uneven and loose. I'm going to start another one today in a better wool and smaller hook. I've managed my first flower and that was a lot easier than i thought it would be. If I can get one decent band made i'm going to move on to the monkey hat I've spotted on ravelry, for my friends baby boy due next month. I will get crochet sussed... ;)

If you use the hook specified on the yarn band it should be just about right. For this aran weight yarn I used a 5mm hook (though 4.5mm would have been ok) and made the band 13 chains long (foundation chain of 19, and three looped up before starting first treble). I just measured it round my head. Not sure if that is any help, it can be hit and miss until you get used to it all. Best of luck :).

They were FAB weren't they ;) mine was orange squares and white edging, I loved it. And we had those white plastic boots with elasticated tops - it's all coming back to me now.
How I loved Donny Osmond :o

Yes I'm going to have to make a new one.

I also had trousers that changed colour at the knee, for instance the top half was lilac and the bottoms dark maroon! From what I remember the top half went to a point at the knee before the colour changed.

Also remember having bought croched tank tops which had raised crochet parrots on the front!

thanks x yarn band??? that would be just perfect if I wasn't using wool with out one ;) I have found a ball of unused (but without band) wool in my mums loft that she remembers belonged to her nan...so more than 50yrs old! I'll practise a bit more before i use wool that is so special!b I think the next wool i have chosen is probably a bit more suitable, it seems a but thicker and stiffer, the first lot was kind of bobbly and hard for me to work with. I'm hopeful that the next one will be a big success:D
    thanks again xxx

oops ok lol, that makes it a bit harder then!
TBH the best way to practise is with a DK or aran yarn and 4 or 5mm hook, using yarn that is not textured or bobbly or anything.
    Have fun!
