That is what I would do:

Lucy did a blog piece on it on Attic24 http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/joining-granny-sqaures.html I've made some slippers joining granny squares up this way, they looked quite cool and Scandinavian.

Edit: does any one know what yarn Lucy uses in her projects? The colours are always so vibrant!

    Hope this helps...

Have you seen these crochet hooks from that site? http://www.deramores.com/knit-pro-symfonie-wood-crochet-hook-set

    Gorgeous!

They are pretty aren't they? I've got a few of these, must have won them in a competition i forgot i entered because they just turned up one day, they look sweet in my hook jar :)

The kid's school is having a handmade stall at the Christmas fair and has asked for crafty bits to be sent in to sell on it so i've made these, 6 of each:

I've also made some cards and fabric bookmarks too.

Regarding the wool that Lucy of Attic 24 uses, i think Debbie Bliss and Rowan are amongst her favourites, mainly dk weights. She tends to use cotton for small projects (little flowers/leaves/hearts) and the Stylecraft special DK for the caravan blankets. I used a Sublime Cashmerino when i made DD's cot blanket (my 1st project) but just cannot afford to use expensive wool on big projects anymore so i tend to stick to the Stylecraft for blankets and cushions, Rico cotton for smaller projects (even though it is annoyingly splitty the colours are lush!) and perhaps if i was making a small item for myself (snood/scarf/mitts) i'd choose a cashmerino yarn.

    Just my twopenny worth lol

    brilliant pics!

I've used rico cotton and although smoothe to touch once made it's a right pain to crochet with imo. Never again.

I'm lacking in crochet inspiration right now. My hands are idleand that is not good for my mind (or waist line!)

Having been browsing Attic 24 I came across this attractive edging which I might try.

Hope you don't mind me sharing here too?

My dishcloth project that I was hoping to learn to crochet on changed shape thanks to those lovely pics on here inspiring me.

I made a long strip to join into a head bad and them took hours trying to get my head round a YouTube tutorial on flowers.

    I managed one!!!

I attached it with the hook which was fiddly. I am going to have to get a big needle for wool.

I am really REALLY proud of it:

Can't wait to start a bigger project but am gonna concentrate on learning a few more stitches first.

Such a good little hobby to pick up when you are sitting down :T

Ps, the wool had different colours in it already. I'm not that clever yet to attempt changing colours whilst in a project!

Whilst on holiday last week I re-taught myself how to crochet, having not done any for about 30 years! I am now doing granny squares in a lovely yarn which is in shades of pink, mauve, cream and grey (Crofter). I am making a cot blanket for my grandaughter. I have tried sewing the squares together but I am not entirely satisfied with the result.

I am thinking it might be nice to pick out one of the shades and crochet the squares together plus crochet an edging. Any suggestions as the best way to do this? Do I just chain stitch the squares together?
I have joined granny squares together on the right side by doing double crochet in the same way as lucy's attic shows on the link above.

Lovely headband jumblejack! Well done :T

lilmisskidkat - I love the snowflakes. Where did you get the pattern?

Hope you don't me sharing this here?

I have made my second and third crocheted things today:j :j

I started a hat yesterday and finished it today. The bottom bit as triple crocheted and it is very poor but the hat still looks cute:

Then I was gonna do another headband but the scarlet thread ran out. I didn't want to waste it so I folded it over on itself, crocheted the sides together and sewed some buttons on as a pocket but it fits my playing card pack so that is the purpose it will now serve!
