My hooks arrived today and I've been practising with the aid of you tube all evening. When I start on a proper project though, what do I do with it when I stop for the evening? Do I keep the hook in the stitch and hope it doesnt fall out or embed it in a ball of blu-tack?? Its so easy with knitting, it just sits on the needle for months in my knitting bag without unravelling

I usually enlarge the loop then sort of skewer the hook throught the loop, project and wool to keep it all together. The enlarged loops stops any unravelling.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140

I'm such a beginner, I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. (I havent even started a project yet, Im still just practising!)
If I chain 21 stitches, then single crochet into the chain, should I have 21 or 20 stitches?0 -

depends if you have done a turning chain, i.e. chain 21 plus one, so u effectively skip the plus 1 and u work in the next hole (chain no. 21) , if u chain 21 and then work in the next chain you will have 20 chains left.Living Simply, not simply living.Weight Loss - 5b/55lb

Wool, acrylic, cotton....weights?
Everything seems to be sold by weight but just to be awkward, I want to know lengths. I'm a beginner - can you tell?
How long is a 100g ball of yarn? I've found one that is 30% New Wool, 50% Acrylic & 20% Polymide. Will that be the same length as 100% wool?

Hi Tru
Deramores website sells almost every brand/type of wool and in the description it includes the length in metres per ball.
Eg: i mainly use Stylecraft Special DK (100% acrylic) which is 295m per 100g ball or Rico Essentials Cotton (100% cotton) which is 130m per 50g ball so x2 = 260m. Whereas a 200g ball of Super chunky (100% acrylic) is only 120m in length
Hope this helps
