Deramores.com do a huge range of yarns and equipment at reasonable rpices and often have discount codes.
Stylecraft special is decent acrylic yarns to get started on but they also have lots of natural fibres if you prefer themPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Are you a beginner or a seasoned professional?
I picked up a new magazine today, a learn to crochet one, had a free hook and two balls of yarn with it for 99p, comes with a DVD as well but I've not watched it yet.
I'm a total novice though, thought it might help
Hi, is this magazine called Learn to Crochet? I have seen this on TV and I have been everywhere to find it in the shops and I can't get it anywhere. I was going to ask my newsagent to order it in but just wanted to check if that was the name of it.

My Money Managing Ways0 -
hi there not sure if there is room for me as I'm a total newbie to crocheting, I've tried several times to learn but I just can'/t get it to 'click' I'm going to try watching some youtube videos to see if that helps. I really don't want to give up but my minds just doesn't seem to be able to compute it lol
Does anyone have any advise/really simple ways of learning? I eve stumble at the first hurdle as I can not manage to even thread/feed the wool properly on my fingers
I am such a beginner that so far I can (only just) tie a slip knot & make a chain

Hi
Don't lose heart, it can sometimes take a while to 'click' but once it does you'll be awayMe and knitting still don't get on
I learnt to crochet by watching Youtube tutorials, The Knit Witch and Art of crochet by Teresa are good. It can make all the difference to see it in someone's hands as they go rather than reading instructions from a book.
As for the wool holding, just do whatever is comfortable for you. I still don't hold the wool 'properly' as i just can't seem to thread it through my fingers, i just let it drape through my hand. The results are the same! Also make sure you hold your hook in a way that is comfortable for you, some people hold it 'pencil' style, others like me prefer 'knife' - google these terms for pics and better explanations.
Any other questions feel free to pm me

I agree with lilmisskitkat. I don't thread the yarn through my fingers either. Same with knitting, which I can do but I'm very slow at. I think patience and practice are the key.Diary: Conquering Debts Once and For All

I seem to be doing okay with it, but felt I'd do better with a larger size hook as my chains seem too small to work with as I'm a novice too - I couldn't really tell where I was going wrong.
Hiya
While you are getting your skills built up you might find it easier to go up a hook size just for the chain; it wont make a whole lot of difference to the end product but may be easier for you to work out what goes where
Unfortunately the first row is the worst! Do you know a crocheteer who could start you off?You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
For those learning, youtube videos/tutorials were an absolute lifesaver for me, I couldn't make head or tail of the written instructions but seeing someone do it helped a lot (just be careful whether they're showing you the UK or US terms)
What also helped was starting off on granny squares - I could not get the hang of crocheting into a chain (heck I'm still a bit dodgy on it), so granny squares introduced me to crochet in a much easier way.February Grocery Challenge - £100.87/£180February Don't Throw Food Away Challenge - £0.60/£1.500 -

Thanks
It's called Art of Crochet and I got mine in Smiths yesterday - haven't opened it yet.
Don't what ever you do try and subscribe to it online (with the lure of free gifts) which I tried to do about 6 months ago. I didn't receive even one copy. Kept getting excuses why I hadn't received it and getting different stories as to which issue it would start at. Tried to cancel it which was even worse but eventually managed (even though they complained that I had cancelled the direct debit.) Have since discovered that there are a lot of unhappy subscribers out there.
However, if I like the look of it then I was thinking of ordering it through WH Smiths as you can easily stop them whenever you want.Ditch 100 in January Challenge 100/100
