As you may know I am thinking about doing a crochet blanket. I have come across an old pattern which looks quite straightforward. It is for chunky wool. Instead of buying chunky especially, do you think I will get a reasonable result if I use two strands of DK wound together?

I have never used that method before but if you are confident working with two strands then go for it :D

I often do this with no problems and you can get a really good affect mixing two colours together.

Yes it will be fine and being a blanket it won't matter if the tension is slightly out.

Purchased 7 balls of Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino yesterday from a great wool shop I never knew existed not far from me and it was fantastic!! I could have stayed there all day! i am going to make a blanket and have never used this yarn before its lovely!! in fact I have since purchased 6 more balls of Ebay.......oops there goes my budget for this month!!!!!
  • Just wondering if any of you lovely people have crochet books and if you do, what they are and do you find them useful?

I have several and love reading them and looking at the different designs but often find I only use 1 or 2 patterns. My current favourite is Creating Crochet Fabric by Dora Ohrenstein. There are some gorgeous patterns although I don't use the same yarn as it's not readily available here. :( I have a couple that I refer to for ideas, colours, patterns - 200 Crochet Blocks and 200 Ripple Patterns both by Jan Eaton.

Ooh lovely Rummer - show and tell please?

ETA - my favourite crochet book and the one I most is the Harmony Guide to Crochet Stitches. It has the best selection of stitch patterns I've found and the instructions are so clear and easy to follow. It's out of print now but you can still get used copies on Amazon.

I have ordered some Amigurumi ones and one all about snowflakes so that I am ready for xmas this year :rotfl:

The one I use the most at the moment is Cute and Easy Crochet which is filled with straight forward and gorgeous things to make.

I was thinking about the snowflake one for next year - do let us know if it's good.

I'm ashamed to say I bought the Cute & Easy one several months ago when the Book People had it cheap and haven't even looked at it - put it on the shelf as I was too busy when it arrived, and forgot I had it until you just mentioned it! Lovely, it's like getting a new book again!:rotfl:
