What a fantastic thread. I am an avid knitter but having had a look here I feel an overwhelming urge to do granny squares! I certainly have loads of left over yarn which I can use.

Currently got a heap of yarn selling on ebay so that I have some cash to fund my next project!
Can I see a photo please?

Just sown in all the ends of 30 granny squares

I love seeing the piles of granny squares growing up around me! Over the next couple of days I am going to lay then out to see what size the blanket is. Originally I wanted it single be size but I think it might work better as a lap blanket as it is for my DD to snuggle up with on the couch.

Hello, I haven't visited this thread before but may I give a little wave and ask for someone's help? I taught myself to knit off youtube and now crocheting but very very much a beginner. I am just trying to knit a square shape to sew together to make a very basic tank top for my little girl ... thought that might be achievable ... how wrong I was. I co 30 (I think), did sc for 4 rows then carried on dc for 14 rows before giving up and it has taken forever. The thing is ... from 30 stitches I only now have 10 and it goes inwards. I chained 1 after the sc ends of row and 2 after the dc. I thought I had to miss the very first proper looking "hole" at the beginning of each line but by the decreasing numbers think I am wrong after all ... this was after searching as I did this but ended up with far too many stitches and it flaring out into a semi circle when I did use that first stitch. I don't want crochet to beat me but I have noone at all i know who knows how to crochet to ask. I shall pop by again now I have found this thread ... If I haven't given up in frustration. Thanks if anyone knows where I am going wrong

    Can you post a pic?
If you miss the first stitch you need to make sure your last stitch when you come back is into the chain and not the last proper stitch.
Another way to do it is ignore the chains but then you have to put a stitch into the same space.

I realise it may sound like a stupid question but should all rows have exactly the same number of stitches in them? at the end of each row it seemed like I was going into a stitch on the beginning of the side as opposed to on the top which I assume is the chain 2 I was did at the beginning of the row before. I have been trawling the internet and perhaps I read it wrong and should not be skipping the first stitch? I love Teresa on youtube for being able to even get this far but I am painfully slow and it feels like torture but I really wanted to do something my little one could wear as opposed to butterflies and flowers with wonky petals as I cant quite get those right even. If anyone can recommend a beginners site I would love to know about it

Always count your stitches! Get into the habit of counting at end of each row. If u go to tjw1963 channel on u tube, she has beginner videos, I'd recommend following one of her beginner projects - scarf/blanket to see how to turn etc.

What small fun things could I make with a ball of DK yarn that are quick?
