how difficult was the cushion? All i have done so far are granny squares and not sure where to go from here, I really love the blooming cushion, ripple blanket/cushion or the granny stripe blanket, what would you suggest?

When I made the cushion, I had only ever done granny squares before , but Lucy's instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Once you get started it's easy, the only different bit is that you just have to count the stitches in between the increases, but it's quite easy as you can see them clearly if you miss-count.

I am doing the granny stripe now, which I am enjoying, maybe the ripple next because I haven't done it before. I do want to make another cushion though, the one I made has an 18" cushion pad squeezed into it, I would like to make a smaller one to go with it.

Give the Blooming Flower cushion a go, you will be so pleased with it, and I'd be glad to help if you should need it.

Oh thank you so much for your advice, i am so excited to begin a new project but was just so spoilt for choice...... i think i may give the cushion ago as it will be nice to do a smaller project after the blanket I have just completed. What type of wool and what size hook did you use for the cushion and also how long did it take you? Thank you for your offer of help too!

Hello everyone I have just discovered this thread and believe it or not just before Xmas I bought a Knit & Crochet magazine as I wanted to learn how to crochet and it had free wool and a hook on the cover:) Anyway after a few attempts I have learnt how to do a granny square and now am turning all my squares into a cushion, well thats the plan. Im really enjoying it and if I could get a 10th as good as some of you I would be very happy

The photos are brilliant, I didnt know you could make such lovely things and I will definitely have a look on the website mentioned to give me inspiration and ideas.

Anyway Happy New Year to everyone, Im off to put my dinner on and try to work out how to crochet all the squares together, in the pictures it looks easy but Ive already had one go and it didnt work out right, so I'll try again and again and again:rotfl:

Oh, how exciting and good for you!! I used double knitting, all acrylic and all odments I had left from other projects, so not all the same make and I used a 4mm hook. It only took 2 weeks to complete, and I usually only crochet in the evenings (unless I can sneak a little time during the day when I should be doing other things!!).

Good Luck, I look forward to seeing the photos :)

    Hi there,

Wow, well done on getting on so well with your squares. I don't know if you have looked at Lucy's Blog yet (Attic24) but she gives a tutorial on joining granny squares which may help you, it certainly helped me as I made a right mess on my own! :rotfl::rotfl:I join my squares after I have finished them all, not as I go along, as I prefer the finished look.

Thank you, cant wait to start now! How difficult did you find the cushion though? Have you ever tried doing the ripple pattern, I really would like to do that but feel it may be too complicated.

I didn't find the cushion difficult at all, just different (in a good way) from granny squares. No, I haven't tried the ripple pattern yet, but watch this space, because it will probably be next on my list.

I was at my boyfriend's parents house the other day and his mum has taken it upon herself to teach me to crochet. I go there very rarely as there is never time but I must admit she has given me a bit of a bug for it. Could anyone give me any tips what I need to buy to get started? Thanks

Please tell me I am not the only yarn addict out there

Currently crocheting a granny square blanket and I ran out of yarn, cue a dash into town to stock up and in John Lewis they had loads of yarn on sale. Now I am busy try to locate patterns that will fit with the lovely stuff I saw. There was oodles of tweed, various Rowan yarns and tonnes of Debbie Bliss Fez so if you know of any good patterns suitable for Fez I would love to hear. Going to check on Ravelry for patterns too :D

Now I do have a couple of questions for you talented ladies! I would like to crochet a ripple cot/buggy sized blanket but I wondered how many stitches to cast on so that it is the right kind of size. The other questions is, how many four round granny squares should I make to produce a blanket roughly the size of a single bed cover?

    Thank you!!

Just come back on - how do you all manage to crochet Im getting addicted to reading all the threads!!!!!! Going to look at Attic 24 now, and tomorrow I will attempt sewing my squares together. What do you for the back of the cushion, make one big square of crochet and sew them together I know its a silly question but I am new to this. Thanks :o
