I have found it!!!! "recipe" for these dolly bags http://s1092.photobucket.com/albums/i405/PixieDust1975/?action=view&current=FaithsBlanket20111.jpg#!oZZ6QQcurrentZZhttp%3A%2F%2Fs1092.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fi405%2FPixieDust1975%2F%3Faction%3Dview%26current%3DDSCF0001.jpg is as follows.

Foundation ring: With lime wol, Make 8ch and join with sl st
Round 1: 3ch, 14 tr in ring, sl st to third ch
Round 2: 3ch, 1tr in same sp, (2tr in st) to end, sl st to third ch
Round 3: 3ch, 1tr in same sp, (2tr in 1 tr) to end, sl st to third ch
Round 4: (5ch, sk 2 tr, 1dc in next tr) to end, sl st along first ch of first loop
Round 5: (5ch, 1dc in centre of next loop) to end, sl st along first 2 ch of first loop
Rounds 6-18: As Round 5, fasten off. Join on violet to third ch of one loop
Rounds 19-20: As round 5, fasten off

Drawstring: With orange, make 100ch. Thread the end of the yarn through a tapestry needle, then thread the needle under and over the points where the trw purple rounds meet. Pass both ends through a bead, knot them together and trim. Make a second drawstring and thread it through the top edge from the opposite side.

Phew, that took ages with a ferret walking across the keyboard, I had to keep deleting! :D As you can see from the pics...I tend to use patterns as "guides"....I get so far, see where I'm going, and then go freestyle :D

    Help Pixidust !!

I have started making one of these bags and am muddling my way through but just want to check a few things.

The first 3 rows are fine - they give you a 'ruffly' circle base? (Is round two and three the same?)

And I can manage the 'netty' bits fine but it is at the end of each round that I am struggling with. - sl st along first 2 ch of first loop. So do you finish with a double crochet then slip stitch into the first 2 chain stitches of the next row. Just it is not looking very neat.

My problem, I think is that I am trying to stick exactly to the pattern when in reality, the nature of the bag is that it can be 'freehand'.

    Hi! :)

The number of rounds you do to make the ruffly circle really depends on how big you want the bag to be, iyswim? :) DOn't stress about it :)

The sl st conundrum.....I did master it.....it means that you're effectively making "hidden" stitches to get to your next starting point, which is in the centre of one of the netty bits....

but, being me, I thought "fe(k that" and made it into a spiral ;) It doesn't have to be perfect :)

Where from, where from !!! Actually, don't tell me as I have already taken to sneaking wool into the house without hubby seeing.

I got rid of my last wool mountain a few years ago to someone who knitted for a baby unit but it is gradually growing again.

Hi again ladies, has anyone bought any DK wool from L*dl? I'm working with the wool I bought from there last year and the strands keep parting making it difficult and so slow to bring the stitches through? Or is it me? :undecided [Edit]Sorry everyone, it was A!di, not the other one!

    Any help please? Thanks

You'll probably phone the funny farm on me if I say this but here goes...

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-CROCHET-PATTERN-Giddyup-Zebra-Pull-along-Toy-/110656238443?pt=UK_Crafts_Knitting_Crochet_EH&hash=item19c3a0336b

    I want one of those!

    Er... The thing is...

    I don't crochet. :rotfl:

    1. How hard is it? Can't be that bad can it? Can it? Oh God.
    2. What's 600g of DK mean? Is that the wool? And what is that likely to cost?
    3. How to I learn to crochet?

If we all started small no one would build aeroplanes... Or whatever insane uttering fits the part best. :j

Is it utterly nuts? Or maybe doable? Give it to me straight!

OMG ... thats a huge task for a new starter!!

Regarding learning ..... use uTube to find videos on how to do it. Keep searching until you find one that you find easy to understand. Learn it stitch at a time, practice single crochet until you get it right and the tension is good. Then move on to double, triple etc.

600g DK does relate to the wool. It means you need 600g of double knit wool which is really easy to find. It should also give you a hook size so you know what hook to use. Ebay is a good place to get hooks.

I suggest you start smaller things first and work up to the rocking zebra! They are plenty of free patterns online; just google.

Good luck and feel free to ask as many questions as you want on here :)
