Thanks so much for the heads-up, Alison!
Hi Jessie, you've done amazingly!!! :T Could you please kindly tell me which book you've learned from? I was looking at some on Am!zon earlier and ended up baffling myself. I'm sure you could give the blanket a really good shot, you never know and there are about 6 weeks til Christmas.

Hello there! Have been reading through this thread over the past couple of days and am feeling very inspired!
Was in WhSmith today and they'd just put out the first part of 'The Art of Crochet' which has been reprinted. Thought it may be of interest to some who are new to crochet. Only 99p for the first mag and it has two small balls of wool and a hook to start you off! It also has a DVD with some of the basics.
Next week it's up to £1.99 and the £2.99 thereafter so could get kind of expensive but might be worth buying the first couple?!
Alison
I couldn't see it in my local WH Smiths yesterday but looked online.
Not really money saving but if you subscribe online then you get free gifts. I think you need to get the first 4 issues to get all the free gifts but it says you can unsubscribe at any time. So if you are disciplined to unsubscribe after the first 4 or five could be worth it?

Well Done Jessie!!!!!
Youwill have time to make a lap blanket for your Mum - it's a great personal challenge to try, anyway! I don't think colours matterthat much....most of my favourite things have been "happy accidents" anyway!0 -

Hi Sue,
To be perfectly honest with you the book I have is "Kids learn to - Crochet" by Lucinda Guy & Francois hall which i found well illustrated but found You Tube the most helpful and you could manage without the book really.
Give it a try!! i couldnt crochet 2 weeks ago and i am now on my way to making a granny square blanket and i am thrilled with it!!!0 -

Hi and thank you! I did very little yesterday around the house but in total i crocheted another 15 granny squares which I have put all together with the 9 i did the night before, on my dining table and they look absolutely lovely, i am so proud of them! I am determined to try and do a lap blanket for my mum, she loves crochet blankets and has purchased many of them but this will be the first made for her and I am doing it in colours I know she will like.
I have ordered a lovely purple aluminium crochet hook and a soft touch one too and cant wait for them to come.
I have been rushing round all morning trying to get my jobs done so that this afternoon I can sit and crochet and I cant wait!!!!:j:j0 -
I'm soo behind on my crochet gifts this year, its making me sad. I have a friend due her baby anytime now and I've only just started to make a white blanket for her!!! I do have a bag of white baby hats and mittens that I only need to add some ribbon in colour to finish them off. But I did want a massive puff blanket and due to my lack of discipline its now granny square, 10 rounds each square, will attempt to do lots of them and when baby arrives I'll buy some pale colours and do a few coloured squares b4 I join them all.
Also on the gift list is; dinosaur for 1 year old party tomorrow, tea pot, cups and saucers, some cakes n biscuits for boyfriends nice for Christmas, some bigger dinosaurs for his nephews Christmas. Warm hat n scarf for him, his dad, my brother, dad and granda. As well as a set for my 4 year old son. Wrist warmer for his mum, sister, my mum sister, 2 cousins and goddaughter.
I'm never getting all that done!!!!Living Simply, not simply living.Weight Loss - 5b/55lb

I am making these for some pressies. My sister and I give each other a Christmas related ornament every year since we are in different countries.
They are so easy to make and quick as well.0 -

I love these. What a brilliant idea. Easy to make when sitting in front of the telly in the evening too.0 -

Thanks so much Jessie,
I just find it a little difficult on YouTube due to the USA sizes, so I'm lost from the beginning! One lady said she was using an i 5mm???
Can anyone please tell me what that means in our lingo?
Another problem I'm having is that I'm obviously getting my tension far too tight so need to try to get that better, any tips would be very much appreciated?
Thanks everyone, this is a great thread with lovely people.Just as well or I'd be sunk!
