Ginnyknit - love 'em!
Did you sew the heart on to the dishcloth afterwards or is it part of the cloth itself? (iykwim?)
Chips - I love the effect of the gold topping on the bottle warmer. My daughter would lOVE the wrist warmers0 -
Pixiedust, I sewed the heart on after I made the dishcloth. And thanks to all who liked my things.Clearing the junk to travel light

Hi PixieDust, the wristwarmers came from a free online pattern, http://creativeyarn.blogspot.com/2008/02/crochet-openwork-handwarmers.html
(they are really easy!)
And the beer cosy is for an Arsenal fan, I looked on the club website to see the colours (to get the proportions right, iyswim) and saw that the badges seemed to have a little bit of gold on, so thought it would be a nice finish. i hope he likes it - when he heard I was doing a lot of crochet he told my mum & my sister he thought he might get some crocheted pants for Christmas....:eek:
He was joking (I hope:eek:) but it will amuse him to have a crocheted present anyway! If nothing else, he'll enjoy the beer...0 -
make some mini pants for the lid of the bottle
I will look at that pattern - thank you!0 -
Hi ladies (and gents maybe), I wonder if I could join you and ask for advice? I'd love to start crochet as I have a hand/wrist and arm injury and knitting isn't so easy now.
I've never done crochet beforeand am not sure how I will get on, but I'd love to give it a try. However, the first thing I haven't a clue about is the needle size? :undecided Add to that the wool and you'll see my dilemma - I've no idea! :undecided
I've seen a set of soft handled needles on Amaz!n, but even though a lady with a wrist problem gives them a great review, there are 10 needles; so would it be best to start off with them as the review is so good or do I plug away with aluminium one s or whatever they are and see how I go?
I've watched a few of the tutorials on YouT!be and would love to have a go....any help would be so appreciated, please.
Thanks a lot,

I've just started to learn to crochet and have made several dishcloths and a blanket so far. I have only done half-treble stitch and double crochet so far.0

I don't think it matters what "type" of hook you use, as long as you are comfortable with it then it doesn't matter if it's aluminium, plastic, bamboo or whatever. I haven't been doing it long, and I've found that using a size 4 hook with double knit wool seems to work well for "practice" - a kind of "all-purpose" mix, if you will. I began with, and still favour, the Granny Square....it seems easier to keep my place with those0

I would avoid plastic ones, metal ones are easier to learn on because the wool moves better on them.
To learn I would go for a mid size hook, about a 5 or 6. That way you can see the stitches well which helps a lot. With regards to wool, double is good to start; make sure its a good quality one that wont split as you use it .... I learnt this the hard way2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -

Which type of wool is a good one? How much should i expect to pay?0 -
Do you have a M@ry St£vens H0spice shop or a Wi!kos near you? They both sell good quality wool at less than £1.50 a ball. Other than that, you're looking for Double Knit wool, I'd pay anything up to £2.00 a ball - but that depends a lot on where you live and what is available to you.
Use a light coloured wool to learn on......black wool is the devil's own colour for me!!!!
