  • I've just been to Lidl

    I got 2 packs of 3 crochet hooks size 5 - 7 and size 8 - 10 for 99p each pack!

They also had packs of 4 balls of wool £2.99 and various other bits and pieces of sewing/knitting stuff. worth a look if you have one close by!

  • Hi Guys :hello: Must say that it has been very quiet on this thread lately but please come back, I need your advice! :o I put out a call for ideas for decorations to add to boys/mens hats but had no response so decided to make an owl hat (a little more manly than bows and flowers I thought) so have bought a nice pattern from Etsy but just can't get my head around it! It is in American which is fine by me as that is how I learnt but if someone can help explain how I start that would be brilliant! Here's what it says -
Ch 33 - fine got that
Round 1: SC (DC English) in 2nd CH from hook, and in each stitch across (32 SC), DO NOT turn and continue SC in each ST on the other side of starting chain, do not join. (64 SC around).............?
Now when I work into the foundation chain with SC (DC Eng) I usually go under the top V (two stitches) yarn over my hook, pull through, yarn over and through again but do you think these instructions mean that I should just put my hook through back loop only and then do the same on the remaining loop on the way back???? I'm confused! The hat is kind of a rectangle so has corners for ears at the top. PLEASE help if you have any ideas!
    Thank you :T

I also crochet American :) makes more sence name wise i think hehe

Anyways, when I work both sides of a chain, dependingon the item, i generally only work in one loop of the stitch, this gives a smaller hole than would get if ur working 2 angles in the same hole.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi All,
Lurker here, coming to say "hi". I have just successfully managed to crochet granny squares that are symetrical! <sp> I have always just fudged the start because I was never taught to begin a project (my nan taught me when I was young, so always started for me). I am hope to crochet a patchwork granny blanket.
Fab projects - love the little cross-over boottees, but I can't follow a pattern yet - am working on it!

My first big project, a granny square blanket. Yes, it is a bit rough round the edges but seeing as I only learnt to crochet in September I am ever so proud!!

Thank you so much LolaLemon for getting back to me, I put a call out everywhere I could think of - I have crochet people all over the world now thanks to facebook etc ha but by the time anyone got back to me I had started it the way I described before, i have finished the hat part and it turned out ok. A few other people suggested I should go back into the same place which wierdly hadn't even crossed me mind - DOH! - so am going to try that on my next one, will post pics when I'm done :j
