Me too, I have to put the wash on first though :(
  • Hello, I haven't been on here for a while - it's nice to see the thread busy.

I've loved looking at everyone's projects - there's some amazing things on here.

I've been working away, but haven't finished much yet. My granny square blanket is coming along and I've got a list a mile long of things that I want to make -hat, scarf, mittens etc. I like to have a few things on the go at once.
I did finish this- my autumn wreath.

I'm going to make a Christmas wreath next.

    Happy hooking everyone.

Red shoes, that wreath is stunning, can't wait to see your Christmas one.
  • Love that Autumn Wreath Red shoes. Keep on hooking and keep posting lots of piccies.

Maytaurus I love that little gingerbread boy, if I'd seen him last week I would have enclosed him in the baby parcel I gave away.

When you say english do you mean it's an american pattern and you want to know the english stitches or do you just mean you want to know how to do it?

    Or both?

OK, I'll just do whatever as I've got to go and feed dog:

Rnd 1: With color, ch 5, join with sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 3 (counts as dc), 15 dc in ring, join with sl st in top of ch-3. (16 dc)

    ENGLISH:

You have a coloured yarn and a white.

With the coloured yarn make 5 chain stitches and join them into a ring with a slip stitch. Chain 3 (which will count as a double crochet (dc) stitch) and do 15 dc into the ring you've just made. Join the first and last of these 15 stitches with a slip stitch. You'll have made 16 dc in this round.

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in same st, then 2 dc in each st around, join. Fasten off. (32 dc)

    ENGLISH:
Now chain 3 (which counts as your first dc in this round) and make a double crochet in the same stitch, then make 2 double crochets in each remaining stitch (total 32 in this round). Fasten off.

Rnd 3: Join white with sl st in any st, ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same st, *ch 1, skip next st, (sc in next 2 sts) 2 times, ch 1, skip next st,** (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next st; repeat from * around ending last repeat at **, join in top of ch-3

    ENGLISH:
With your white yarn join to any stitch in the last round with a slip stitch and chain 3. In the same stitch do a dc, then chain 2 and do another 2 dc.

*Chain 1 and skip next stitch, do a single crochet in the next 2 stitches.

Chain 1 and skip next st, do a single crochet in the next 2 stitches.

Chain 1 and skip next stitch**, then in the next stitch do 2 dc, chain 2 then do another 2 dc and repeat from the * do this right round til you get back to where you started your chain 3. On the last stitch stop at the double star (i.e. ch1 and skip next stitch but don't do the 2dc onwards) join into the top chain of your first ch3 with a slip stitch.

If anybody spots a mistake in what I've done please let us know!! But I think it's right.

If that's an american pattern then their dc is what english crocheters call treble crochet and their sc is the english dc (I think?? perhaps some english crocheter can help here). I actually learned to crochet from you tube so the american terms make sense to me. Your pattern looks american to me.

    In general:

the * in a crochet pattern means start and end here (ie, whatever is in between the * you keep doing that over and over until the pattern tells you when to stop.

( ) brackets generally have a number after them and it means you do whatever is between the brackets a specific number of times. Like (dc,ch1,dc) 3 - would mean do a double then chain 1 and do another double and repeat til you've done it 3 times.

around - when you're working in rounds (rather than rows) like this pattern it just means follow the instructions until you get back to where you started on this round.

HTH and I haven't confused you even more!

  • Hello all,

Mumoftwo & Bella - thanks for your kind comments on my wreath.

Maytaurus - thanks for finding the gingerbread boy - this would be ideal to hang on my Christmas tree.

I'm attempting a pair of fingerless mitts today, so we'll see how I get on with that. I'm also planning what to make for Christmas- I've started doing some snowflakes that I'll make into a garland.

I read a blog called Fave Crafts and the other day, they gave a download for a free E-book of crochet Christmas projects:
    http://www.favecrafts.com/master_images/FaveCrafts/Holiday-eBook-from-Red-Heart-Yarn.pdf

There's some good things, such as mini mitten and stocking decorations, pom pom trees, large stockings, chevron blanket etc.

    Have a good weekend all,
