The Mortgage Free in Three - Take 2 challenge (MFiT-T2)

Have just given my update. 175,914.23, still won't put me in the green, but better than I was expecting.
That's an extra 2,200 than I was expecting this month, but we sold our beach buggy and won't be buying the new car for a few months so have added the money to the overpayment account in the mortgage so although this artificially reduces`our balance for this challenge it will help. We'll be selling our other house later this year which will be going towards paying of this mortgage so every little helps as they say.
Well done everyone and especially thanks to FB and Maz.0 -
Can I make a suggestion? Is there any way that the "shortfall" column could also show by how ahead of their target people are? e.g by having a negative shortfall. My shortfall would therefore be -£2861. This would allow people to see at a glance how much they are either ahead or behind target in the same column....
Hi medic,
I've just tried that on a test chart and while I can understand your reasoning - in fact it's a good idea and I very much like it, it totally screws up the shortfall summary data at the bottom of the chart.
Never to be defeated, I'll have a think to see if I can come up with anything!

FB.
Thanks for taking a look and glad you like the idea.
How about the following workaround
Basically, ask excel to ignore negative numbers when calculating a sum. For example, lets say you've got data in A1 to A6, to get the sum of values greater than 0 in A7 you can type the following into A7
=SUMIF(A1:A6,">0")
That should then ignore all the negative numbers. It worked in excel when I just tried...0 -
Don't know why that emoticon has come up in my formula above!
It should be A1
then colon
then A6
with no spaces0 -
Hi all,
Another quick post regarding Chart 02. I've just added an 'Updated? column to the end of the chart, so that you can see on the actual chart, who has updated.
There's still the updates summary too, but I think I like it on the chart itself, so that you can get a better indication as to who has provided an update for the chart.
Chart 03 coming later...

I've just checked and the spreadsheets part of Google docs (the chart is totally online, ie edited, held and published online - no excel in sight) and it does support the SUMIF command, BUT, in the summary box there is a min, max and average too as well as the sum.
I'll have a proper look later...

For the average summary row use the following formula:
=SUMIF(B1:B8,">0")/COUNTIF(B1:B8,">0")
Where B1:B8 is the entire range of entries in the relevant column0 -
Hi FB, I've updated on the update sheet, which I thought I did the other week but it wasn't showing on the spreadsheet so I've done it again. Hopefully it was a blip with the internet connection last time. Please let me know if it hasn't worked.0

Quick update - Two out of 4 so far. I've published Chart 03 and put an 'Updated' column in Charts 02 and 03.
Using the 'shortfall' column in chart 03, you will be able to see what you have to reduce your mortgage by to get in / stay in the green for Chart 03.
See posts #4 and #5 for a link to all of the charts.chirpchirp wrote: »Hi FB, I've updated on the update sheet, which I thought I did the other week but it wasn't showing on the spreadsheet so I've done it again.
Spotted that - I've just done a quick batch. Off now - be back later...
