I completely agree Loz... I think you've more chance of turning him gay by making the colour a taboo...

You can't make someone gay, people who are homosexual are born that way. Besides, who cares if they're gay anyway. It wouldn't worry me in the slightest if my children were gay.

This has been an interesting thread to read. I thought more people would think that boys would be picked on for wearing pink, but most people haven't thought that.

I have a DD 6 and a DS 2. My DS also likes pink, buggies, etc, and I've always been quite happy about it.

I tried really hard with my DD not to buy stereo typical 'girls' toys, but as soon as she could express a preference, she was insistent on dolls, and now refuses to wear anything that could be seen as 'boys' clothes. She won't wear trousers at all, despite us pointing out that me and her Grandma wear them, so they're not just for boys. Not sure where she learnt that some things are for boys and some for girls? Maybe from TV or nursery.

Anyhow back to boys and pink.

Last week, I was putting clips in my DD hair for school, and my DS wanted a clip, so I clipped one into his fringe. It happened to be pink, and he looked so cute. Straight away my DD said why has he got a clip, those are for girls. So I said he can wear one if he likes etc.

Then we dropped my DD off at school. Her friend's Mum said nice clip, about my DS, she meant it nicely but again drawing attention to it.

Then I took my DS to nursery, immediately one of the girls that worked them, said gosh a clip. My DS walked over to a group of boys, one of them pointed at his clip.

I went away feeling worried that he would be upset about people going on about his clip, that maybe I shouldn't have put it in.

This experience would put me off buying my DS pink shoes if he wanted them, there seem to be so many people out there commenting on boys and girls wearing things that aren't traditionally for their gender.

I'm all for people expressing their individuality, and want my kids to feel confident wearing whatever they like, but do worry about other people's reactions, and how that might make them feel. Think it is our job to help protect them, when they are too little to maybe be able to defend themself, by explaining their choices.

I LOVE the converse boots with the zip. The only problem with his black pair was that they were quite difficult to get on and off but the zip should solve that.

Now I need to find them somewhere where they're a bargain.
  • awww im sure he will be chuffed to bits that you have decided to get him some :)
  • I have not read the whole thread...but have you thought about getting him a boyish style and then dying them pink ??? x
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

I found the Converse boots with the zip at half price and used a 10% discount code to so have managed to get them for £11.68 incl delivery. BARGAIN!

I think two pairs of pink shoes is enough for the time being!

Sorry haven't read the whole thread, but if he likes pink so much you could buy some pink laces and put them in black shoes etc?

This may have already been suggested!

I like those. Post a pic if you can. You don't need to post a pic of your son's face. Just his feet! :D

It may not be the case at the moment, but not so long ago if you went out on a Saturday night, pink would be by far the most common single colour you would see on young males... Especially the more trendy or sporty ones.

I went on a stag weekend last year, and one particular night out seemed like an informal competiton of who could wear the brightest pink shirt... this wasn't fancy dress, but a good old fashioned lads drinking sesh!
  • Yep pink is popular amongst my boys - aged 6,10 and 15. All have pink clothing and love it.
They also have 'Pink days' at school for donations to Breast cancer, where everyone wears something pink, the majority of boys have pink clothing these days
Love the converse with the zips BTW!
