Lots already mentioned, but I particularly hope small/independent cafes survive. Clowns/CB1 in Cambridge for example, the Alley Cafe in Nottingham, Earlham Cafe in Norwich...Mango in Leicester appears to have died. Not wild on shopping, but I do love to treat myself to a nice cup of coffee, a cake, and a read of the paper. Starbucks and Cafe Nero just aren't the same.

There's an arts cinema near us which I really want to survive, that's got funding from somewhere so it doesn't depend on turning a profit.

I haven't found any really nice pubs since I left Norwich. Now there's a town that knows how to run a proper pub, and long may they all last.

Local butcher is also excellent if expensive.

Nice to see a lot of support for Royal Mail. I buy a lot of stuff online and now will only buy if they send via RM, getting stuff from courier firms is more hassle than it's worth.

    2. The cheese seller on the market in the village where I grew up who would always give me a big chunk of something to eat on the way home from school on market day.
    3. Dan Murphy's (Aussie bottle shop) - cheap wine, good wine and they sell Belgian beer and Young's Special too!
    4. My next employer.
    5. The Lamb (pub) in Buckland, Oxfordshire.
Why thank you (and Vivatifosi too) but Real Lifeland shop won't be around for much longer (assuming we can offload the lease to a Costa Tea Shoppe).

I was going to say ME on this thread anyway.......but I will carry on trading in a different way.

I was offerred a concession in A Prominent Oxford Circus store 4 yrs back,,,but couldn't pursue it (for reasons posted before)......and, once the production capacity and cashflow is sorted, I am going to apply again....well, they can only say no......but I have just had a good online season, so stand a decent chance of getting in.

My Brick Lane concession T/O was one third of my whole shop T/O last week....and it is a 4' rail compared to a 900 sq ft shop.

I think it is a sign to change.

Anyhow, creatively, my recession strategy is totally wrong now for the area I am stranded in....it has changed so much in 11 yrs...I didn't really notice either (without wanting to sound lame).

Other shops I would expect to survive without too much trouble are John Lewis, Zara, umm....ummm..

To go...it would be great if the UK public decided that they would rather ingest 800 cals via a big roast dinner rather than some whippy, flippy, soyachino muck from Starbucks....and they decide to abandon the UK.....forever.

    Tesco (depressingly).

Starbucks coffee is vile. A Generali Boom-o-meter is how long people will queue for the privilege of buying a 2.50 cup of coffee made from the Elzebubb's dandruff when they can get an equally dreadful coffee at work for free out of the Machine.
