    I gave my thanks earlier in this thread to Shiply, for great rates.
    Now its the turn of FreightSearch.

    They have the cheapest rates (by far) for the Highlands (IV20). Under £8 for 13kgs!!!
    Brilliant!!!

    Quick (hopefully) query: who are best (ie guaranteed to get there but reasonable price) for guaranteed next day delivery? Mainland UK to mainland UK, smallish (50x30x30cms parcel) parcel <20kgs?

    Decided to try Interparcel Titan. Fingers crossed.

    http://www.interparcel.com/ You book it all online, the parcel is picked up from you and you just sit back and relax... Be warned, the above services may cost a little more than normal though

    will try to sell storage and Royal Mail delivery on the phone, suggesting a customer drops the goods off while the salesman is on holiday and talk later.

    It turns out that they are a pallet courier with a UPS account and a barn - possibly fine for some customers but not for ebay pick-and pack by Royal Mail: they don't have a collection for example as became apparent on the first order. I phoned to ask to collect my goods when a request for £250 deposit came, and was told I could not have my goods back until I had paid this:
    2 weeks storage: £24.00
    1 UPS parcel: £6.65
    1 picking charge@ £3
    Release fee: £25
    Total = £58.65
    plus v.a.t. = £67.45

    There is a long vague contract about something else that refers to a price list that isn't available. I was asked to sign an A4 saying that I had recieved terms and conditions, but the prices above seem to have been made-up on the spot.

    Thames Valley Police will not "witness a civil transaction" and I don't fancy going and trying to bluff my goods out of the barn without a police witness.

    What to learn?

    I am going to read something about Somali pirates as a reminder that things get worse than loosing £67, but advice on how to stop the same thing happening to people in future would be good.
