what would you have done if it was returned to parcelforces depot?
either collect it or get it redelivered

Previously parcelforce have redelivered. Now i HAVE to go and collect it as there is no redelivery option and after only ONE attempt on this occasion. Not everyone is fit enough or able to travel to collect parcels - thats why some people use mail order.
The 0870 phone number gets up my nose as well - why should i have to pay to complain!
It stinks. I told the guy who sent the package in the USA what had happened - he thinks i'm kidding - but them customer service is taken a little more seriously over there.

Gave my brother the details for parcelbroker.co.uk from reading this thread. Well! for the first time a recommendation from mse did'nt work out for us :(. They failed to pick up, when we emailed them they fobbed us off to DHL to sort out. DHL said as we had booked thru a 3rd party, parcelbroker have to re-arrange another delivery??!!.
This is just a joke, am i the only one to have a problem with these guys?!, or can i put this down to a bad experience?, any advice on how to proceed would be much appreciated, thanks in advance :)
No one said it was gonna be easy!

My friend delivers for Parcelforce, his round is 30+ miles from the depot and if people are not in or no neighbour handy he takes it to the local Post Office so they dont have to travel a 60+ round trip, makes sense to me, (it also makes him hit his first delivery attempt target too maybe thats the real reason :p )

    Hi

can anyone help as i am a complete thicky! bought something (cabinet/chest) on ebay for £133 from person in derby (so will need insurance to cover that). it is 50 cm tall, 100 cm wide and 50 cm deep. the seller estimates that it is about 25kg but i reckon it could be as heavy as 40kg (as i asked someone else who was selling the same thing). i need it delivered to suffolk and this is my responsibility. really dont know what the best thing to do is - kind of regretting it already. seller happy to wait in for courier. think they havent been too helpful re: the weight as i am worried i could get stung re: the weight if i get it wrong

any advice re: who i should go with would be gratefully received. thanks from a complete numpty xxx

    You can try https://www.interparcel.com

Anyone that has a Parcelforce account can approach them for Flat Rate prices for EC. The rates are for either 20kg/30kg depending on the country, and vary slightly by country. But basically, if you're sending good volumes to the EC, then you'll be able to get a flat rate to France for only a few more pennies than for Stockport.

But how does it fit with p2go? parcelforce don't entertain re-sellers selling their services at reasonable rates...

If you go with a courier rather than a parcel company then you'll find that the weight won't be so much of an issue. There are loads of companies around that can find you good cheap prices for independent courier companies, just google delivery couriers, or something like that. I would think that you'd probably get prices around £40.

Parcels will be cheaper if the item weighs under 30kg, but once it goes over that it becomes "freight" as far as the parcel companies are concerned, and needs to go on a two man freight service (such as parcelline, TNT etc) rather than the standard parcel service.

I would avoid parcel companies for furniture like this, because you will need to get it boxed and packaged, and it will go on a conveyor belt system similar to a baggage handling system at an airport.

Also watch, because some of the parcel companies are doing vicous things with the excess weight charges, parcelforce have recently doubled it from £1 per kilo to £2.

Interparcel are good, but you need to make sure that your seller does package the item up good for you.

    Hi

I bought a microwave on ebay, prior to bidding seller confirmed he was happy for me to get courier to collect and to wait for them but now seems unkeen to package the item.

Anyone any suggestions. Unpacked item is 27kg and approx 40x45x55 cm.

Courier charges seem ok but obviously item needs to be packed. Wondering if I can send seller a box and or packaging material?

Would several wraps of bubble wrap, extra think brown paper and loads of packing tape be sufficient? Would it be unreasonable to expect the seller to do this packaging? If they refuse are there any other delivery options that include packaging or carry unpackaged items?

    Thanks
    I think....

You definitely need strong boxes. Think about an airport baggage handling system, would you be happy to send a microwave through baggage in just brown paper and bubble wrap.

The metal will dent if the parcel is dropped.

When these types of items arrive with a parcel carrier they always have polysterene type stuff around them, and this give the cushion for the box to be bashed but the contents not be dented. Bubble wrap I would not recommend as sufficient.

    Double boxing would be best.

And you also have the tricky job of making sure that the packaging doesn't take the weight over 30kg, because then your parcel price may increase by quite q lot.

If you want an independent courier company rather than a parcel company, these are easy to find off google, however, you are unlikely to get a cost of less than £30/£40 because the independent guys are charging based on time and distance, and can't compete with the flat rate £10 charges offered by the parcel companies. But with these companies, you will not have to worry about packaging so much because it won't be going through any sorting hubs.

    Good luck.
