    morning,

need a bit of insight into what people do regarding insurance please.

with larger items over £100 what is my best bet, as the smaller items i would send special delivery.
    .

I use self insurance but this isnt for everyone of course. The chances of it going missing with a tracked signed for service are small yet you can pay 5% to 10% of the parcels value in insurance on a £150 package to the parcel carrier. This means that more than say one in 15 of your parcels must be lost before you are a loser with self insurance. It also saves arguments with the parcel carrier about its value and lengthy time consuming claims and forms and waiting.
In my experience your chances of wining a claim for damage are small unless they run over it with a fork truck or something similar so good packing is your insurance against damage in transit.
My golden rule with insurance is the insurance company want to make a profit from insurance - some of them make more money from insurance than from the service so your average guy must do better to take the odd knock himself. The exceptions to this is something that could wipe you out like a house fire or overseas medical bill and car insurance wher ei t is a legal requirment
  • "What did freightsearch say?"

not heard back from them yet, but did send them an email with some of my requirements on saturday.

on the self insurance tip, yes i have been considering this myself. the difficulty being these are not my items, i am selling for someone else. tho it makes little difference i suppose.

and i agree with the success rate of insurance claims etc.

auctiva have an insurance option but i believe it is only if you are in the states ?

I'm looking to get an item collected and delivered to my home. It's a foam sofabed and is 136x134x78cm. All the companies I've looked at don't seem to accept such large items. Any advice anyone?

Also, I've read a lot about making sure the item is well packaged etc. Would this still apply to a sofabed? I mean, it can't really be put in a box!

    Thanks

Do you happen to be in the SouthWest, if so I know a couple of reliable man-and-van outfits.

this is the only type of item i am struggling to come up with a way of sending. saletrack suggested i use a 3rd party insurance company but i have no experience of this.

I do the same as previous poster - I never take out insurance as I know we will never win plus there is the inconvenience for the customer (I believe they have to keep the damaged item at their house?). Any damages I just take the hit - get it back as soon as possible and send out a replacement without question. I have never had anything lost thankfully and breakages are few.
  • given me something to think about, cheers

(still heard nothing from freightsearch, they obviously don't need new clients...)

Had my first own label printed freightsearch DHL collections today. Driver wanted a second copy to take with him as well as one on the parcel. This might just have been my driver but i suggest printing out a spare while you have the printer going.
  • i don't appear to be able to complete a booking for collection tomorrow with saletrack, don't tell me u can only book it on the day ?!

  • I sent a parcel with Freightsearch over 3 months ago, DHL lost it & I got no insurance payout so I would never risk using Freightsearch again. If you ask me DHL International have no idea Freightsearch are reselling their service so be careful.

I see that Armitageshanks has stepped up his ‘Express Packges’ spamming campaign. He continues to avoid recommending the best companies in favour of his beloved Express Packages despite the fact they have no website & hardly any feedback. If anyone else did this surely you would question their motives.

As for Directparceldistribution / Lowcostparceldelivery, I can’t quite believe the nerve of this guy. To steal from customers & then come back on this thread to promote his new website is unbelievable. Did any one contact trading standards to try & get him prosecuted? Why doesn’t ArmitageShanks stamp down on this straight away? DirectParcelDistribution are on the avoid list however it states “To their credit they do seem to be refunding people for failed bookings”. It was also not long ago when ArmitageShanks offered to remove DirectParcelDistribution from the avoid list if they sorted out the Fedex Fiasco. Unsurprisingly soon after this his Fedex bills were cancelled. Don’t forget ArmitageShanks got his refund from DirectParcelDistribution long before anyone else. Not only this but ArmitageShanks kept telling everyone that DirectParcelDistribution were being taken over when know one else could get in contact with them (unsurprisingly they were not taken over). My question is why have Lowcostparceldelivery not been added straight to the avoid list & why has Armitageshanks not made it clear they are dangerous & should be avoided.

Should ArmitageShanks be allowed direct contact with the companies he is promoting or is it a conflict of interest? I have no problem with Armitageshanks promoting the services he uses however he shouldn’t be getting preferential treatment from these companies.

I'm trying to get hold of boxes (cardboard or tough plastic) that have the dimensions 76cm x 54cm x 30cm but it's proving near impossible. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
