Good afternoon. THings going slower than planned. I had made some soup this morning so manicure client (also a friend) was invited for some of this with some HM bread.

Good OS day. Scabby apples batch 1 were cooked with some packs of dried blackcurrants, raisins and some mixed spice.

Remembered that mum used to make lemon cordial with her Kenwood chef blender. I had a chef plus blender gifted on freecycle (was soooooo thrilled!) so had a go at this with some of the iffy lemon mountain (was about 24 small ones for 29p. SOme have been thrown out as I didn't get onto them soon enough. Now I have some lemon cordial, that ds will love and will mean that I don't have to buy squash as soon.

got rather a lot more lemons and some more apples so need to have another think.

Other jobs list not doing tooo badly. Need to go and do a quick tidy up the stairs and along landing, as ds's trombone teacher is arriving for a lesson in half an hour and I don't really want him breaking his neck! WIll pack away decs while I'm there. Back soon with more OS plans!

    afternoon all

Been up to London to the dentist, DS1 needed a filling, DS2 myself and DH needed nothing done :j DSs are 25 and 22 but we all hold on to a good NHS dentist when we find a gem He's a lovely man who actually remembers my mum when she had little Bobby the yorkie and walked him regularly and met him most mornings as he was going in to his surgery (the dentist that is, not Bobby) . Noticed that my mum's old flat that's is next door to the dentist has new occupants. Hope they are happy there whoever they are.

Talking about good customer service. When I had to go to mum's rent office to notify them of her death and hand back keys etc the lady behind the counter went beyond the call of duty and was so helpful, even putting herself out to post back my mum's death certificate recorded delivery off her own bat. I wrote to her superiors and she wrote back to me thanking me for doing it so was glad she got the recognition. I don't mind making the effort to praise as well as complain when the people involved deserve a mention.

    Chicken stirfry for dinner.

It doesn't feel quite as cold in Kent today as it has and it certainly felt a lot warmer in London when we got out of the car up there so lets hope the thermometer carries on in that direction for all our sakes. Right I'd better shift myself and get dinner ready.

    Have a good night everyone

Ivyleave - Good luck for your brother's scan. My dad was diagnosed at the end of July and they started him on HRT treatment but didn't start the rt until Monday past. They wouldn't start him on it before because they needed to give him 7 weeks constant rt and they shut the department down over Xmas  and it would interfere with his treatment.

Back from the garage with the car and it's not sorted ! They didn't have the part so will have to take it back. It only takes half an hour to do or so they say - so why did I have to leave the car all day !!!!!! Off to have a rant to myself

    Hi All,
I haven't been here since Sunday, DH and I have had a couple of stressfull days. On Monday a.m. we saw water bubbling up through the road at the end of our drive, called waterboard, they said they were inundated and would get to us asap. Coucil road workers came out at 9pm and put traffic lights on the road because the cars/lorries had caused a huge hole about 5ft wide, water was now a cascading river running down our drive and into our double garage that is full with furniture, boxes, etc.

Council workers gave us some sand bags, only 3 which we put against our front door. DH and I spent most of the night moving stuff into our cottage with temp at -6. on Monday night.

Tuesday a.m. waterboard came with pumps, digger, road drills etc. Found the mains pipe, it's 8 inch diameter. Their tools only cope with a 6 inch. So the water is still flooding the garages and lapping against the front door as no workers have turned up today. Apparently the mains supply thousands of properties so they are hoping to do the work at midnight tonight. Not much sleep me thinks.

This morning I went to take a shower, no water. DH went into the loft and found all the pipes frozen. It was -10deg here last night. DH had put 10 inches of loft insulation up there in March, it stops the heat escaping but as the lofts get no heat the pipes have frozen. He has spent all day up there re-routing new pipes and puting extra lagging on them, he's still at it. It's freezing here with 3 loft hatches open. :(

I had a hosp app today, just managed to slip and slide the car up the icey drive, did some shoping then got home and discovered I had lost my reading glasses. I have another pair but one half of the arm snapped off so I have sellotaped a cocktail stick to it.
    Make do and mend.

Well sorry for the rant, thinks can only get better.
Off to catch up then cook dinner, at least the kitchen tap has water.

    Hugs to those in need.

    Hi all.

I need to let off steam, as I'm going to go stark raving mad otherwise.
I just hope this isn't how the whole of 2009 is going to be.:eek::eek::eek:

We are currently having a running battle with royal Mail - they have lost loads of our post (four pieces that I definitely know about, and who knows how many others) and they keep delivering stuff for the other end of the estate to us.One piece even came through our door for the second time, having been put back in the post box previously.:mad:

Then we have had to have four roof tiles replaced. Apart from a bill I could have done without, I get very nervous and panicky if I have to have anyone here when Mr LW isn't here. So now, the job's done, and the bloke has his cheque, but I can't stop shaking. _pale__pale__pale_

Also, Mr LW says we had those tiles replaced a couple of years ago, and the chap then must've been a cowboy, but I have absolutely no recollection of the event. This is happening a lot lately, I just have to take people' word that something happened when they say, because I have no memory of it. It's worrying.:(

On top of all that, my printer has died.In the middle of an important task. I've been in email conference with HP Support, and we've come to the conclusion that something mechanical has gone ker-klunk. So looks like I'll have to get a new printer, as it'll likely cost just as much to get the old one fixed as to replace it.

So OS has gone out of the window today. Can't even think about cooking dins - but Mr LW has said he'll do us egg'n'chips when he gets in (bless him). Might see if he'll take me out for a drink later. Not very MS, but I think I need it.:undecided

Sorry to go on, specially when it all seems so trivial compared to what some of you are going through, but I needed to get it all off my chest, and I know you lovely folks won't mind.:o

(((((HUGS))))) to all who want/need them, and Happy Anniversary to the Pookys.

Lame Wolf, don't worry about letting off steam here and you don't need to apologise for not being very OS. I'm sure everyone understands.

Regarding memory, I think I'm the same. WHen I was younger I used to remember everyone and everything, but I blame the fact that there is so much going on in not just my life, but those of the family, that if I can remember the things that matter, then that's something. My kids sometimes tell me they told me something when I know d**n well that they didn't! Like they have asked if they could go somewhere. Hmmmm

If you genuinely think that you have a problem with your memory, then a word with your GP might be a good thing. It might just be a situation needs monitoring. I tried a well known herbal remedy beginning with G for this (I know we can't give medical advice) but not sure if it did any good..... LOL as I didn't always remember to take it !

Hope you get some nice quiet time with Mr LW this evening as I'm sure that will help as well.

I probably should see someone, as it's really getting silly, and quite frightening. Not just silly little things that slip one's mind, but entire events that Mr LW assures me took place, but I have no recollection of in any way, shape or form.
Reason I haven't mentioned it to the Doc thus far - I'm too scared! I don't want to be sent for yet another CAT scan or MRI, and I'm frightened what they might say/find.

EDIT: I've just started a "House Maintenance Diary" on a Word document, so that at least if I can't remember it, I can look up what happened and when.
