Monday 5th January 2009

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 5th January 2009. This is an “Over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well

Morning all,

Eughhh, it was a bit of a struggle to get up this morning, back to earth with a bump, dd is up and has porridge, a kiwi fruit and orange juice for breakfast, I have a cuppa, will have mine later.

Looks like we might have had a tiny bit of snow during the night, we have about 1mm on the grass this morning  , not enough to make a snowman. I was going to have a good go at the bedroom today, but have woken with a headache which I had all day yesterday, which is making me feel a bit sick, so we will see.

I do have to tidy through, hoover, and clean the bathroom, I would also like to make some soup, maybe a couple of flavours to stock the freezer for oh while he is at work.

Dinner tonight will be leftover roast beef from yesterday, might do mash and veg with it, so nice and easy.

We had a nice meal with my parents and OH's dad yesterday, all went well but my yorkshires came out like cricket balls again  , still they were very tasty.

Aussie, I hope all went well for Benny today, please let us know xx

Hugs to Churchie and Smoky xx

Have good days all xx

    Morning Ruby and everyone,

We have a dusting of snow here in Worcester. OH has just gone back to work after two weeks off. Me and Dd are up -trying to get back into a routine. Dd is back at school tomorrow but boys not back till Wednesday. Hopefully dd will be tired by bedtime today and get a good night's sleep. I can hear one of the boys moving around now, looks like we're all up early.

I need to get some more washing powder today and a few other things, so I think we will walk up to Tesco's in our wellies. I don't fancy defrosting the car and it will do us good.

It's definitely a porridge day today, lunch will be hummus, toast, cheese, carrot sticks, maybe a bit of soup. Not sure about tea today -don't have any meat defrosting so probably a bean/chickpea and veg stew with baked potatoes.

Morning Everyone :hello: It's freezing here this morning, there's a light covering of snow over everything. It looks so pretty. I'm up with ds1 he's the only one back to school today :D We're having some tea & porridge to warm us up.

I did dh sandwiches last night so only the flasks & soup to heat up this morning. It'll certainly keep him warm, it's a lentil, chilli dahl/soup, I opened a new chilli powder & put the same amount in as usual, but my old one must have been out of date or meduim heat or both ;) as this one blew the roof of my mouth off when I tasted it  Good job dh likes spicy stuff.

I'm at MIL's today, will be cleaning for her while I'm there. I'm dusting & vaccing through here before I go. Chicken curry for tea tonight (a recipe I read on here :T ) My ds whose back at school will hoover it up as he can't graze all day like he does at home :p

Have a good day everyone, even back at work  Hugs to all that need them & woofs & purrs to animals that need them.

    Morning.

Back to work day today. Not till 1pm though. The Aga is being serviced this morning, so that will be my first big expense of the New Year.
I tried to get my weather station up and running yesterday, but hit snags with the wall fixings and the shops were closed to get what I wanted....and it got dark. So it will have to be finished today before work....
Not much else to report. The schools go back some time this week and as a governor we will be making 4 teachers redundant! I thought that was unheard of, but such is the way in 2009. No wonder my OH can't get a teaching job.
Almost at the end of the Christmas food. Still got the decs up, they will have to come down today. Have a nice one cheers
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!
  • Nice layer of snow here in Brum.

One of my cats keeps going out and coming straight back in meowing at me as if to say "can't you do something about that white stuff, I don't like it on my paws". Up since stupid o'clock due to DD's early morning waking...

Consultant appointment today about to determine whether I "only" have rheumatoid arthritis or if it is something like lupus... not looking forward to it at all!

Oh well, better wash the breakfast dishes and shine my sink...
  • Morning everyone

Well it looks like we had some snow last night :D Not much, but enough to make me smile.

Back to work today, DD stayed at the IL's last night so they can have her today as she doesn't go back to school till tomorrow.

Lunch is last night's leftovers. Dinner tonight will be sausage and pasta.

Joined the flylady thread yesterday, feeling quite motivated today - I need to get my house in some more order.

I hope Benny and Tilly are recovering well today.

    Churchmouse (((((hugs)))))
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)

    Morning Everyone

It was snowing this morning when I got up and just heard the weather forecast that the temperatures might go down to as low as -9 here tonight.Brrrr feel cold just thinking about it

I'm nipping out to MrS this morning as my egg supply has dropped dangerously low.As I plan to bake this afternoon I desperately need them. Our car has gone into the garage for its MOT this morning we were warned in June when it had its annual service that the brake pads might need replacing come MOT time so if it fails on them then its no great shakes.I'm expecting a couple of tyres to need replacing too.I swear our car eats tyres!Every MOT it needs two new ones and we dont use it that much

Hubby is on a split shift today so he'll be home for 3hours at lunchtime. The kids arent back at school till Wednesday so we'll have a big lunch and a snacky tea I think.

Washer is on and I still dont need to make any bread.I've dusted and tidied downstairs so it just needs a vacuum.I'll do upstairs when I go for a shower

I'm getting the kids up in a mo to try and get them used to the early starts again.Cruel I know but necessary as come Wednesday it'll be a madhouse with four to get ready

Hope everyone has a good day today and wrap up warm cos its a cold 'un

Morning all...............((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))) if you need one.

Not been up this early for ages. Waiting for a delivery 'between 7am and 5pm........just my luck they would be here at 7am, concequently woke every hour through the night, shattered..............

Looking out of the window we have had a slight fal of snow, not enough to have a snawball fight, but enough to make the roads slippy. Glad I do not have to go out in the car today.

Clean up day, it takes me approx 3 hours to clean through the apartment, so today is the day.... vinegar and stardrops at the ready.

Cold chicken, jacket spud and salad for supper tonight, we will be staying in and keeping warm......although if OH is ok we might just venture out for a short walk.

Yesterday was a good day no DD......they do seem to be tailing off a bit, but we still need to find out what is causing them.

    Morning all
Hubby & I are both back at work today, but I had a text last night telling me not to get there before 9:30.
We have snow here, after due consideration hubby & I decided there wasn't enough to be a sprinkling, it's more like a frosting, and of course, surprise surprise, the trains are all henned up, so I drove him to the mainline station. I just hope he can get a train at the other end as BIL doesn't have any diesel in the van or any money to get any!!! He got paid £2500 on 27th, in cash, he gave hubby £200 & has none left!

Ravy, I used to get through tyre fast, until DS (he's a mechanic) told me I didn't have enough air in them, they last much longer now I keep them pumped up.

N9eav, sorry to hear Mrs N9eav doesn't have a job yet, when we advertise we get hundreds of applicants for some subjects but only one for others.

I need to get tea organised & do the DW before I set off for work.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning :hello:

It snowed last night and it's snowing now :j

The decs are down, I just need to pack them into boxes. I have to go into town for an hour, then I'm home for the rest of the day.

The animals can have the run of the kitchen for the afternoon. I need to do some ironing and sort food for the freezer, I'll have to dodge their paws as they speed around :D

Off to get the baked potatoes out of the freezer, see ya later
