OS Daily Thread - Saturday 3rd January

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 3rd January 2009. This is an “Over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.

Hi everyone! morning.gifJust woken up so thought I would come and post here before making a cup of tea.

It's lovely seeing all the returning and new names posting - you are all so welcome here.

Churchmouse - still remembering you all in my prayers
ravlesley - my mother stopped speaking to our only other living relative about 5 yrs ago, so there is no-one. A friend of my mothers who I am in contact with says she has tried to dicuss me but that my mother appears to have shut down completely and will not consider talking to me. And my sister has never needed an excuse not to speak to me, and she loves having mum all to herself. :rotfl:
Purple-sparks - I hope your Mum will be ok, it must be a worrying time for you.
Csarina - I hope the scan gives you some answers hon.
Sistercas and Moliere - I still have loads of turkey frozen too, plus some really manky bits that we wouldn't eat but the cat will LOVE! We have had some great turkey meals - we had fajitas too with hot tomato salsa and refried beans and a turkey, mushroom and red pepper pie which did us two meals.
Elona - fingers crossed for you hon
welcome2.gifUndercoverangel and hayley11 - I for one am one of the least industrious OS's here, but I do try!
taplady - Oh that is great news on the tax refund

My decorations usually stay up til 12th night (6th Jan) And this year we didn't put them up til late Christmas eve so haven't had a chance to get bored with them yet!

I am with all the others in the Nigella cola gammon discussion. The gammon is fab, do not attempt the black bean soup with the leftover cola, it really is not nice.

Other news - my lodger (who has been in bed with flu/chest infection since she came back from her sisters on the 27th) rallied enough yesterday to leave the house to view a flat for rent which she has taken and is moving out today. The rent is due today so it's perfect timing for her. Am I wrong to feel just a little p*ssed off? I feel really let down by her and yet that is stupid because I knew she was looking for somewhere, I just didn't know she was looking for somewhere to rent, as she hadn't actually shared that with us! When she moved in, she asked if it would be Ok to stay til March/April time and we had agreed on that I thought. However, her new place is much nearer to where she works which will save her commuting time in the mornings so I can see the sense in it. *sighs*

OS stuff today will be making chinese style fried rice with 'crispy turkey' rather than crispy duck, and I need to do some baking. And the garage needs clearing out. (OH's job:rotfl: )
Ok, so I hope you all have a good day - smileyhug.gifto all who want one...

  • Hello,
sort of a returner to the forum although I never been a prolific poster!

I have started the fly lady thing and have a shiny sink, which is lovely, now I need to tell my husband that the sink has to stay that way at all times.... will be difficult...

I will be making some more gnocchi today and freeze them in portions. While the potatoes are 39p at Aldi gotta make most of it!

Will have a go at making my own sweet chilli sauce, I used to be the only addict in the house so I could justify the expense since a bottle lasted me a month, but now my husband has discovered it big time which meant we went through 2 bottles over Xmas... It surely can't be that difficult...

WM is on, little one is having toast and milk next to me... hopefully get out today to take some pictures with my camera, could do with a day out!

God morning MSD and welcome to you, French Maid!

Well, like yesterday, it's not so cold here so no scraping of windscreens today.

Dinner is undecided at the moment; I need to rummage in the freezer for something. It will have to be a simple dinner because I have some paperwork that needs doing and I want to get it all done today, if I can.

I keep thinking about taking the decorations down over the weekend. I won't have time on 12th night because I have too much to do that day. I might take most of them down but leave one small Christmas tree up. Much as I love the decorations over Christmas, I also love taking them down and getting the house back to normal.

(((Hugs))) to all those who are feeling sad, unwell or worried.

Hope everyone has a good day today.

    Morning :hello:

We went to Asda last night, stocked up on ingredients to last the month and bought some fresh stuff for the week. I really tried hard not to buy anything ready-made but mr tru insisted on 3 pizzas  We had £80 of vouchers (I thought we had more but forgot that I'd spent some on new towels mid-december), the total was £95.47 so it only cost me £15.47 :j If I knock off the cost of the toiletries, the food actually cost me -£1. lol.
I now have a few bags of flour and some boxes of cereal that won't fit in the cupboard so I'll need to rearrange. Again :D

I made pastry for quiches yesterday but that's as far as I got :D So I'll finish those today. I think yesterday's mad morning of cooking wasn't so much about filling the freezer, it was more about playing with the kenwood chef :rotfl: Still, we've now got lots of frozen homemade ready meals.

Today's plans are..........written on a notebook in the lounge and I haven't been in there yet :D

I'm keeping a spreadsheet with all costs on. I think I'll do 2 totals - one will be the receipt total, the other will be what I actually paid after vouchers were used.

Good morning everyone :hello: Hope everyone who has needed hugs over the last few days are feeling a little better today.

Just two more days of our leave and then OH and I are back at work. I need to make up some more soup and bread batches and squeeze them into the freezer for our packed lunches next week. This will mean removing some frozen fruit to make a crumble or two.

The pheasant I cooked in the remoska yesterday was delicious, so today I'm trying a pork casserole. It is just so easy, I very rarely use the main oven anymore. I'm saving electricity on cooking but I'm spending on the additional heating  with it being so cold.

I have a half knit cardigan that has been stuffed into a cupboard for the last couple of years, I think I'll dig it out and look at finishing it.

Have a lovely OS day everyone :D
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

    Morning folks.

Got up late for a change and I am glad I am not waking up at 5am anymore. Not falling asleep at 9pm either.
Cold and frosty here, not too heavy though. Coffee pot is on and decided I am going to Plymouth by (now more expensive) train for my only sales shop of the holidays. I don't need much other than some shoes for work, so hopefully I should find somthing.
Spent the day in PZ yesterday, went to Bro in laws workshop where he gave me a crash course in welding so I made my tower for my weather station, so watch out for daily reports. I shall try and set that up on Sunday as well as take down the decs.
Bought some reduced lamb ribs in Morrisons yesterday, delicious. I gave the dog some of the bones and it managed to get one stuck in between it's top teeth. I managed to get it out, but it's a challenge with your whole hand inside a 10 stone pyrenean dog's mouth!

Well, I am going to find a bargain...... cheers

    It's very dark this morning

  • Good morning all. Cold here and I'm still in my pajamas and dressing gown and have completed my ensemble with my Piglet slippers my daughters gave me for Christmas. Believe me, I'm quite the fashion plate. :rotfl:Enjoying a hot coffee while browsing through the threads.

OS today I have ironing to do that I have managed to avoid for much too long now. I have a big batch of mixed bean soup in the SC with some bits of ham that were left. Need to chop some carrots, celery and onion to go in shortly.

Will be making a quick walk to Aldi's to stock up on more of the 39p potatoes, carrots and sprouts before they change the monthly veg special.

Just a general tidy up to do here cleaning wise so that will only take a few minutes. :T

Hope everyone one has a peace filled day that gives you at least one good smile.

Hugs to all who want and or need them.

    Good Morning All

Churchmouse I think I missed your news the other day, ((((Hugs))) for you.

Its absolutley freezing here though only a light frost. Luckily we are off out today - got loads of Odeon vouchers for Christmas so we are going to use some to see Yesman today. We are going to Lakeside as I need to find some jeans for DS - he is getting taller but his waist seems to be getting smaller so it is a no mean feat to get some that fit.

Just about to get some leftover turkey out of the freezer which will be turned into curry tonight. Only managed to freeze two servings this year.

    Have a lovely day.

  • Essex-girl, my DS is just the same, hes gone into 7-8yrs jeans for the length but he really needs a 5-6yrs for the waist.
Got him some jeans from MR T's luckly they have elastic waists but they are on the tightest they can go.

    Hope you find some.
