Happy Friday!! I have a tub of creme freche, got to be used today or binned tommorow what meal can I make? I'm a veggy- but him indoors isn't!! I got chicken in freezer- also little bags of prawns and mussels, perfect portion size for me...I'm a curry freak, I have garlic, chilli, coriander & cumin powder. Fresh basil/thyme/rosemary/chives.. Ideally i'd make a big plate of pasta with a nice chilli cheese sauce and some hm stinky bread., but he doesn't appreciate pasta as a meal, grr blokes.
Please advise- can pop out at dinenrtime if what you suggest needs more ingredients, but only if they total less that three english pounds..
Thanks in advance y'all!

The wife uses creme fraiche when she cooks turkey escalopes. She puts them in the pan with a bit of oil, adds some tinned mushrooms and the creme fraiche goes in right at the end, just long enough to warm it through. Never tried it with chicken though. personally, my recipe would be to spend your £3 on strawberries and eat them with the creme fraiche:)Fiscal drag, that's my problem. Too many people dragging on my fiscals.0

Mix in some iceing sugar & use as an alternative to cream cheese in a cheesecake. Only needs some crushed biscuits & melted butter for the base & some tinned or fresh fruit for the topping.

Mix with an equal quantity of Greek yoghurt and use as an alternative to double cream in a dessert.
Or beat in a little milk to thin it a bit and use in a potato bake.0 -
I used to make a salad dressing of burnt orange and creme fraiche.
If you sear whole, pith on oranges (2 or 3) in a skillet or other heavy bottomed pan in a small quantity of butter until the pith turns black (turning occasionally to achieve an even burn). Allow the oranges to cool. This cooking process sweetens the orange juices inside. Make a slight cut into the orange and lightly squeeze the juice into a mixing bowl with 1/2 pint creme fraiche and a table spoon of sugar. Gently whisk to make even.
I found this to work best with a tossed salad of peaches, parma ham and cherry tomatoes in mixed green leaves.

For an easy meal you could mix the creme fraiche with some mustard and use as a mustard sauce for chicken just fry chicken and add at the end.
Also nice to make a pea guacamole just whizz together with cooked peas.
Nice with beef tortillas, cheese, salad and use as soured cream.
Beef stroganoff.
Make a curry and just blob some on the top that would be yummy.
I know you said not pasta, but it is nice in a tomato and cremefraiche pasta sauce.
If its not the low fat version its nice to make carrot soup the french way, just boil your carrots with the creme fariche and some bouillion untill soft then blend, dont boil too hard (curdle) but will still be nice.
Or tomato soup add the creme fraiche at the end.
Lasanga use the creme faiche as a cheats white sauce, could go on.......... but dont want to bore you all to death!Pawpurrs x0 -
I accidentally ordered via my online shop and tub of 500ml crème fraiche when I only need 200ml for the pasta sauce I’m making
Now I only ever use it for this pasta sauce, and I’m assuming it can be frozen even after heating….
So folks. What can I do with 300ml of crème fraiche?

Hi,
you can freeze it, better if you put it into small containers, so that when you thaw it you use it all at once.0 -

Creme fraiche is lovely in sauces - try adding to steak or chops with cooked onions and mushrooms. Also lovely on puddings such as crumble etc. I prefer it to double cream and also use it to fill meringues. Can also use half fat creme fraiche which is nice too but use the full fat for meringues as it is thicker!0
