Drop half a stone for January Challenge!

i also weighed myself this morning and am 13st 1.5lb
i'm at my heaviest and not happy
still... i'm full of good intentions now and intend to give Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin system a go
I believe Paul McKenna recommends not weighing every week, but every two weeks instead, so I might do that (which will be hard, because I'm used to weighing myself more often).
can I join in with the challenge? I'd like to lose 7lb this month (and more if i can manage it!).
I'm going to try the McKenna approach as well and see if I can change the way I think about food0 -

Hi
I am trying to drop some weight so thought I would see if I could join in! Slightly unusual in that I am also running a marathon in 9 weeks so have to watch eating to make sure I have enough in the tank for training. Currently I am 147lbs and 5ft 5 but target is 135lb so nearly a stone to go. Not sure that it is accurate mind as I'm quite muscular (combination of running and pole dancing  ). But anyhow 7lbs has got to go, I can't fit into half of my trousers any more!

Great idea.
Weigh in 1/1/09 - 199.4 lbs
Weigh in 5/1/09 - 194.2 lbs - lost 5lbs already!
I weighed myself on 1st Jan at 199.4 lbs (over 14 stone:eek: ). beginning of last year I weighed nearly 15 stone and lost 1.5 stones during the summer whilst off sick with depression. Having returned to work my activity levels dropped and we reverted to takeaways 2-3 times per week on the days when I was too tired to cook (OH is disabled and has mental health problems so has to be supervised when cooking:rolleyes: ).
All in all including the xmas season I suppose I haven't done too bad to only have put on half a stone - some of the healthy eating habits must have stuck. We had decided to go on a healthy eating plan before christmas because DH lost his brother, who was only 42, to a massive heart attack & we need to improve his cholesterol balance as well as lose weight.
So far we have:
added 1 benecol drink per day
swapped our normal marg for benecol marg
swapped our normal skimmed milk for soya milk
swapped our normal cheese for cholesterol free soya replacement cheese (quite nice!)
swapped our elmlea for soya cream
swapped our ice cream for soya ice-cream
we already used olive oil, but we have bought some healthy alternatives so that we are getting a variety of different fatty acids
cut out the takeaways (and I think this one is the big one!)
cut out all red meat - replaced with quorn
cut down on chicken - increased quorn
bulking out dishes with pulses instead of more protein/simple carbs
Other than that our diet was pretty good - lots of fruit, vegetables and rice/pasta.0 -
Oh Wow! How great to see such a good turn-out - welcome everyone!
Sorry I didn't make the weigh-in yesterday - life got in the way!
But I have managed to ditch the christmas excess plus an extra quarter pound (every little helps!). I am hoping to break the 12 stone barrier this week......
I'm also back to logging all calories in and out on caloriecount.com. I didn't do it over christmas, and it has taken me a few days to get back on the wagon, but it really does work for me - there are so many hidden calories in lots of food, and it is really easy to make a different choice, or to budget for some extras, once you know where the calories are lurking.
Also, here's a tip I discovered the hard way - when checking calories on a packet, make sure you check what they refer to - for example a tub of cottage cheese might say '100 cals' in big letters - but you have to search to discover that there are three portions in the tub! Also don't assume that 'low fat' or 'healthy choice' has less calories - sometimes a smaller pack of an ordinary version has fewer calories and is just as satisfying.
Right.... back to basics.... this weeks target is to EAT BREAKFAST every day, and to DRINK MORE WATER (okay, so that's two targets....)

Hi folks, I have added everyone's names to the first post (if I have missed anyone just let me know).
Keep track of your weight loss for January, and when we weigh-in next Monday I'll post the running totals by our names (just the losses, not the actual weights!)
Gotta dash - I've broken a filling so am off to the dentist :eek:I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

I've lost a couple of pounds in the last couple of days. I'm not recording my weight til next Monday, though, as I'm not sure if this isn't a fluctuation.
Have just bought Weight Coach for the DS and am having so much fun with it. It was £14.67, so should be a cheap (ish) way of improving my health. It comes with a pedometer that hooks into your DS and tracks your progress. I'm having to use my daughter's DS as I don't have one, but that should work for school days, if not weekends. It's very cool. Just hope I don't get too bored with it, but if I do, there's always Ebay!
I'm just grabbing a bowl of cereal for lunch, then off to pick the girl up from school.Drop half a stone for January challenge.

Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort. (Thank you Mr Roosevelt)0 -
I shall be getting some more exercise tomorrow (today I am trying to build a tripod saucepan stand and getting angrier by the minute because I haven't got enough hands:rolleyes: ). The eye hospital have just phoned me to say that my reading glasses are now in and when would I like to collect them - tomorrow morning I say. Well I can either go by car or I can brave the cold and ice, walk across the road and hop on a bus, get off at bullring, hop on another bus out of town walk then the quarter mile to the eye hospital and do the whole trip in reverse....brrr0

Doing ok so far, feel quite invigorated about my healthy eating kick. Did my WW dvd for 30 mins cv exercise yesterday but I'm realy bored with it now as I've done it for ages and although I think its quite good for mixing and matching especially toning I need some more cardio atm so I've ordered Davinas Box set which supposdly givs you two weeks of routines!! I have been feeling achy in my legs today and thought maybe I was getting a touch of flu til I remembered I'd done exercise yesterday!!:rotfl:
