Well done Blanc, nearly at the 1 month mark, and I love your positive attitude, as you are right, you would have had the kidney infection and cold sores, whether you smoked or didnt, this is where most people do silly things like start smoking again as they believe its the quit that has caused the illness.
I wish you luck with the rest of your quit, how are you finding champix? any side effects?
Ross
Thanks Ross,
I am getting my positive attitude from this thread and I am also reading the original one as well. I thought orginally that my increase trips to the bathroom was due to champix, but since found out it was a kidney infection. I do suffer with broken sleep, but I experience this on my previous attempts as well so I go to bed earlier to compensate. The only other side effect I have is that I did not enjoy drinking my normal glass of wine, made me feel queazy, so I am also off the drink since 5/12/10. So that cant be bad as well. Did try to have a glass on Christmas Eve but it didnt taste right so had a glass of water.
Nearly a month and I delighted.:j
You have done well on Champix as well, are you still on them?0 -
Good Morning Everyone
Day 2 and ready for it. Chocolate biscuits in one hand and Inhalator in the other hand. Thank you for all the welcomes and all the positive posts keeping us on track. Sue thanks for the PM I have sent you a PM and to Ross (bless them poor chickens for me that are left on the shelves) I'm going to keep busy today by sweeping the leaves up from the garden, with my biscuits and inhalator to keep me company.
Money saved so far £5.70. Weight gain so far..20 odd biscuits and untold amount of toasted cheese sandwiches

Hello everyone
Just wanted to say that as of today I am a non-smoker! I actually stopped for 5 years and then started again in June this year, much to my family's disgust. I am determined to do this and today seems like as good a time as any. I'm doing it cold turkey, as it worked for me the first time. Good luck to everyone else out there who have decided to kick the habit x2013 NSD challenge 3/100 -
Helllo - sorry was suspiciously absent yesterday (I had a bit of tobacco left and from experience I always go reluctantly!) So I'm embarrassed and also happy to say that today at 10.43 I extinguished my last ciggarette, emptied all ashtrays & put in dishwasher (ready to drop off at the CS on Tues), had a bath, washed my hair, put smokey clothes in WM and clean ones on. So baby steps, at this very tender stage! Now currently I'm not having any cravings (well heck I go longer than this without a ciggarette at work) but the internal dialogue is driving me up the wall.
Trying to convince oh to come for a walk, but as we haven't been very well I fear I'm flogging a dead horse here. May go for one on my own...
will check in later when I will have slightly more hours under my belt....DF as at 30/12/16

Morning all (whoops its afternoon already). Day 2 here, going ok. I did have a moment driving home from Tesco just now where I thought I'd have one once I was in. Then I remembered I'm a non smoker now
No ifs or buts. Easy decision for me.
Good luck everyone else x
Our hard earned dosh is much better off in our pockets rather than the tobacco industry's.This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Just to remind myself why I'm doing this - I'm going to clean the outside ashtray shortly, which is over running with stinking fag ends that have been sat in snow / rain and g*d knows what over the holiday. Disgusting. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Hi guys, well done to everyone taking the plunge this year. It was my new years resolution to give up last year. i started on the 20th tho to recover from the festivities.
I have now been fag free for 347 days, not one puff!!
I went through boots stop smoking service and was given any nicotine replacement i wanted. they were brilliant and cannot recommend them enough.
It goes get much easier and you will all feel so much better. i hardly give it a second thought now!
Remember be strong and dont give in!!:T0 -
1 Year and 1 Day - Cold Turkey
:T Hey everyone, how are you all!!
Well, I thought I'd stick my smoke free head around the door to say a happy new year to everyone! I know how hard the first couple of days in particular are, and I found it megga encouraging when 'longer-term' quitters popped back into this thread to say they were still going strong.
I just wanted to wish everyone the very very best. I hope the 'old' crowd of 2010 new year quitters are all well and happy - sorry I'm rubbish at staying in touch, but you're all in my thoughts! Congrats on the 1 year anniversary xx
To the 2011 quitters, good luck and believe xxx0 -
Hubby and I both smoked our last ciggie at 8am yesterday morning, so we are about 30 hours in. Both got a patch on, Ive got chewing gum, and am eating anything that aint nailed down.( Not overly concerned about this, he is very skinny, and I am average, and will lose any gained weight once I am, finally quit)
I have had previous attempts at stopping, once for 5 months, the rest more half hearted, but this is the first time he ( after a health scare) has joined me, so I hope this will make all the difference. At least I will not be following him, sniffing.
We have a savings bottle, and have put 2 days cig money in it so far ( £8 per day between us).
He has another appointment with the smoking nurse on the 6th, we think he will ask for an inhilator, as the hand to mouth action seems to be most missed at the moment.
Still, 30 hours is longer than re cent previous attempts, and, it does seem overall a bit easier. Am mid crave atm so excuse the rather glum posting style, I am sure my positivity will perk up again soon. Well done to all who are doing so well, quitting this filthy habit.I don't know much, but I know I love you ....<30 -
Heard of Champix, my wife reckons she will be ok on Nicotine patches, its me thats the one to try and find some sort of help for. I give in to easily, and then drag my wife into it.
AandELee, I was the same, I always gave in too early, Champix was an absolute godsend for me, it took all my cravings away literally in the first month i had about 5 cravings, which lasted seconds, so i would say to you its well worth the try, good luck to you both with your quitThanks Ross,

Blanc, the forums are great for advice arent they, and your right the side effects you experienced on the champix are side effects you would have experienced using any other method, including cold turkey, I have also found alcohol tastes slightly odd at the moemnt, but I carried on regardless LOL
Well done on nearly achieving a month, its a nice feeling isnt it, I actually stopped champix 2 weeks ago, as i kept forgetting to take them, but I am continuing to attend smoking nurse etcGood Morning Everyone
